Maximum velocity. How fast have you gone?

What has been your Max V on pavement.
Give us the story.

I'll start.

29 years old.

On the 403 from the 401 to Brantford
June 1990.
Saturday, 3 pm

1989 Kawasaki ZX10

Long straight, really long and flat. Straightest flat on that section.

Brother passes me pinned on a 88 FJ1200 doing 230.

He's ahead by 300m. I pin it and tuck. The ZX begins to slowly get its legs. I eventually pass him at 250, and continue to 285 kph indicated. Flat out, tucked super tight behind the bubble. Unbelievable F1 engine sounds when you're tucked in the fairing and the engine is at 11000+

170 mph?

As per current fashion, I'll add a disclaimer...

Note; The speed I achieved on the above date was due to the incomplete development of the portion of the brain that controls survival and common sense. The region is now almost fully developed, and attempting such stunts today usually results in a tightness in the nether region, a good indication that maybe its time to slow down. The wife screaming is also a good signal to pay attention to.

Hillar always said to never admit to anything illegal on board. We are probably safe but Police do monitor these type of boards to gain information on illegal activities.

Mark, you have provided a statement in your post that is pretty hard to hide from, time, date exact location, nature of offense committed. You're going away for a long time.

20 years ago... well, I'm probably safe.
But it's a good point Ray.
Post at your own peril.

Yea, but I omitted the day.
It was partly cloudy though, rather cool. Good for making HP.

Common you guys are playing with my memory.  I was reading on here a few minutes ago about a Mustang  Monte Carlo story and another about a 454 pickup and now I think I must have been imagining it.  My kids might be right saying I'm loosing it but when I compare my memory with theres I still think I'm doing okay.  I wouldn't worry a second about old stories, I just never got to go that fast until lately.

Well Hillar's words of wisdom ring true. Do as you will gentlemen. I also have to set a good example now that my own son is able to write me up.  biggrin

I want to see 200 before I expire.
I've done 500, just not on wheels.

I like seeing my wife and kid as well. Everyday even.
And since I don't have a Hayabusa or a ZX1300, the 200 will likely exsist in a dream only. Probably a good thing!
There's always Bonneville. It's on the Bucket list.

We're pretty lucky over here. It's perfectly possible to do 95 mph all day on the motorways, slowing for hazards, cameras, road works and of course keeping your eyes peeled. There is nowhere near the same presence of the boys in blue on our roads as there is in say New England or California. We'll quite often be overtaken by someone doing around 120 but exceeding 100 in the 70 limit will attract an instant ban.

We also have dozens of track days both for cars and bikes, which is my preferred way to go fast. I managed 152 in the Jaguar at RAF Woodbridge in a 1.25 mile sprint but it was bouncing of the speed limiter as I passed through the trap. I've also had the immense privilege to do 135 on the Lavant straight at Goodwood, overtaking stock E-Types all the way round the track while I pretend to be Stirling Moss. I've even got his hair style - but not by choice.

Seriously though guys, if anyone is tempted by this post, please consider finding a way to do it off road all going in the same direction? While you're at why not arrange a volunteer ambulance.

As a crazy 18 year old ... 125+ mph. On hwy. 28 from Peterborough to Cobourg in a '68 Cutlass 442 convertible.
I blew open one of my Thrush mufflers, but still decided to drive through downtown Port Hope at 3 in the morning.

At 16, I did about 35 mph. on a cheap skateboard being towed behind, and hanging onto the roof racks of a '75 Ford Pinto Stationwagon. : )

When I was going to school in Munich I was on the Autobahn a lot. 195-200 would be the average speed and it was legal!

I had a v65 Sabre, 6sp. shaft drive. Endless top end.

Had it pinned out at censored.gif across the 40censored.gif many of times.

My brother is a supervisor at To's traffic. If he found anyone scowering the CP site for illegal activity, they would have thier knuckles rapted........unless it was for pleasure only of course.

I've seen 260 Km in a couple of different cars over the years. One of my most memorable runs was down I5 heading to Seattle for a Wings concert in 1975. I had a high geared Olds 442, and a Ferrari Daytona went by. My girlfriend wanted a closer look................, so I obliged her. There was some traffic, so both of us exhibited some caution, but we did hit 130 Mph a few times. When I reached my exit, he gave us a wave.
I also have a Lions Gate bridge story, but that should be told in person.
In 1979 and 1980, I was into autocross, slaloms and sprints. I had my Malibu on the track at Westwood, and the track in Seattle. I'm not sure what my top speed was, but I distinctly remember going off turn 3 at Westwood sideways and thinking I was going to barrel roll.
High speeds back then on the highway didn't get you into near as much trouble as today. Traffic volume is much greater too!

When I bought my firebird at 15, I wondered why the factory speedo went so high,160 mph. After a few different motors and cominations, and getting in the 8's at 154mph  with the car I started to have a  new goal.I wanted to get the speedo burried.I never looked at it as I went through the finish line ,but last summer it went 8.20 @ 169 mph. That was pretty cool.Wow ,I think its been 20 years this spring since Ive owned it.I think the new motor should go 185-190mph.

I fess up to the 454 pick up story. Trying to do something like that on public roads is lunacy - and in this day and age, there are WAAYY too many vehicles on the road. Scares the crap out of me just to think about it.
You may notice I did not indicate it was on a public road... and to be honest, I have absolutely no idea how accurate the speedo was - especially when it's wrapped back around. I do know it was really really fast, and that pickup was very nearly airborne.

I once had a 69 GMC pickup with a 396/TH400 in it. I buried the speedo going UP the 403 hill in Hamilton. She just kept pulling.

This is Mister Math speaking, there is a formula smile.gif to convert RPM to MPH given rear end ratio and tire diameter (both of which you should surely know, since race car performance on any given track is dependent upon those - mine were either 3.70 [long track] or 4.11 [short track] and 27.5"):

MPH = [RPM x Tire Diameter (inches) ] / [Diff. Ratio x 336]

Mr. Math
aka Dave
