Okay, I took the Riviera out for a little spin today. and slighly hit the gas from a stop and peeled out, no one was around. But 2 marks, equal size from both the rear wheels. Is this a very good chance its a posi? or no?
that would be a bonus how i checked mine i put the rear end up in the air then pressed the gas steped out and only one tire was moving i was like dam i need a posi now
Look on the inside of your trunk lid, you might find a retangular Posi warning sticker something like this:
Mine is yellow with black writing.
If that is missing, you can try looking for a little plastic or metal tag on one of the differental bolts like below. These also go missing sometimes.
Another way is to take it far out of town and and stomp on it for a 1000 feet

I did have a sticker on the trunk lid, but someone painted over it. So I am not sure what sticker it is, I will see if I can find anything on the differential/bolts when I get the chance.
66Beau, a lot get the Riviera confused with the Toronados for these years. The two had similar looks, but I liked the Riviera look better plus the RWD. The Toronado was the sister car to the Riviera and Eldorado I believe.
From the Buick club, they told me some non GS Rivs came with posi rear ends, however different from the GS 3.42 Posi, the non GS came with 3.07. How much of a difference does this matter, I don't know yet.
But I also just found a guy in the States thats trying to build 3.73 Gear for the Riv.

Riviera vs Toronado
Actually, I wanna hear your opinions on these styles together on these cars, what do you guys think? How the headlights are closer together in the middle vs on the side.

Thanks! I thought all three, Toronado, Eldorado and the Riviera were front wheel drive. I am surprised that the Riviera is/was RWD!
What's so special about your rear end? Isn't it a standard BOP rear end? I would have thought it's be the same internals as a GTO, Cutlass or Skylark - in which case, I am surprised the 3.73's aren't readily available.
Is it a 12 bolt cover/10 bolt carrier style?
PS I too prefer the Riviera styling over the Toronado - and definitely more than the Eldorado.

Apparently the Riviera's rear end and suspension had a lot of different parts that aren't interchangeable.
Even Riviera parts from the 67s and 70s will not fit the rear ends. Casings were different too, so you can't even swap the gears. going from non posi to posi rear end.
