looks like not much has been changed in the engine compartment.  Love the valve covers. Looks like the original fuel filter assy. Four barrel version of the 283. I do not think the throtle return spring was ment to stretch that far though.smile.gif

That sure does look like an original 283 4 barrel setup for that car doesn't it?  I love those underhood look as well.

Oh, if only I needed another project car... I love 57 hardtops.

Agreed, it's rusty but how many are out there???

That 4 door hardtop would have been some ride in it's day. Don't you love the Poncho 4 door hard top roof line?

That has to be one of the most beautiful 4 door hardtops ever made.

I have to agree with Carl, one of the nicest cars ever built. I have a 57 Laurentian 4 dr. hardtop, it is in a thousand pieces right now. I am trying to fix her up but hate the body work part, mechanical is what I am good at. Needs floor and rocker panel work as well as rear drivers collision damage. The car has been sitting since collision in 1981 but has always been in heated garage. I should sell it but she is my baby, what can I say. Someday back on the road.

I have spoken to the guy who has bought all those cars from Fort Francis. It looks like they have gone to a good home.

I bought the cars including the Laurentian.  It is an original numbers matching 283/220hp"Super Strato Flash" with factory 4 barrel and dual exhaust.  I'm probably going to sell the Laurentian because I'm getting married and could use the cash.  If anyones interested just send me an e-mail.

Thanks, Steve

I hate to sell it but my fiance is totally worth it and after 9 years deserves a wedding.  She has been very understanding of my automotive obssesion and me in general.  She doesn't even flinch when she hears "Honey, guess what I found in this farmers field today. . . ."  But don't feel bad for me, the changes are all for the good.

I still have the 57 Pathfinder Business Coupe I'm making into a 60's Gasser, a 57 4dr Safari(two tone blue original 283 car) that will hopefully be the tow vehicle for the Gasser, and a rough 57 Pathfinder Deluxe 2dr hardtop that I hope to make into a custom with heavy body mods.  Thats why I'm willing to sell the Laurentian for what I have in it to someone who can give it the attention and restoration it deserves.  I'm into it for about $2500.  Which I think is a very fair for a car that is likely the only 57 Pontiac 283/220 known to exist let alone numbers matching.  I have other parts that could be available that I have bought for extra.  I might be able to deliver it to southern Ontario, Winnipeg, Ottawa for reasonable expenses.

I was asked to post some pics of my 57's so I'll try and post a bunch now.

Thanks, rog.  Can you believe someone cut the rockers out of the Business Coupe to fix a 55 Chevy.  And if you come across ANY 57 parts please let me know!

Thanks, Steve.

Where did that red white Laurentian come from? Sure looks awful familiar, kind of like one I looked at briefly 10 or 15 years ago out side Saskatoon while I was hunting down parts for my 57 Chev 210 2 dr sedan.

Hi Eric

It's likely the same car.  Especially if the one you looked at had a maroon coloured 4 barrel 283 with dual exhaust and mostly all original.  The car was sold new in Calgary.  There is a sticker in the side window that says either Saskatchewan or Sakatoon.  I bought it out of the small town of Fort Frances, Ontario which is between Winnipeg and Thunder Bay.

I've searched all over and my car is the only 283/220hp car I can find, including all the other 57 Pontiac model lines.  I have heard of a dual barrel 283 57 existing but I haven't seen it, a picture or spoken with the owner.  I think he might have been a member here named something like "DualQuadPete."  A fellow member who worked at a Pontiac dealership in Calgary at the time remembers at least a few 57's coming in for service work with the maroon painted blocks so their were multiple "high performance" maroon 283's built originally.  How many were 4brl, dual 4brl, who knows?  Some have spoken about the holy grail of 57's - a 283F.I. but I found on a website someone had copies of the original production records for Rochester and no F.I. units were shipped to the Canadian plant.  My car is the only one I've been able to find with a factory high performance 283 anywhere in any condition.  Luckily it still has all it's original numbers matching driveline intact.

I can put some pictures up in Members rides for you guys :)
Mine was originally a 283/powerglide, more than likely was a two barrel car

Nice car.  What was the original motor in yours?  Was it a high performance 283?  Can you post a few more pics of your car?
