I think I based my decision of the style too. It depends on the car and the gas cap. For example, the chrome gas caps on the Challengers look great. But again, different styles.
Howeverfor this one, I stuck with the red vote.

the only reason im thinking chrome is because that was stock i bought car from original owner and it had a chrome cap. Car was 14 yrs old and cost me the huge sum of $250

I voted for red, but I think it will depend on the rest of the car. In the photos, you've got miles of red and the chrome cap stands out like a sore thumb (IMHO).
Once you get the rest of the chrome and trim on the car, add glossy wheels or hubcaps, my opinion might change.
Once you have the rest of the trim on the car, I think the chrome cap will fit right in. I voted for the chrome. Right now, the red cap looks better in the photo.
i think chrome with light color cars and standard body color with dark color cars. the last thing you want is the main attraction to be the gas cap...LOL

People have been putting chrome caps on Novas and Acadians since 1962 but it cheapens the look IMO. I don't know what the original owner told you but if that chrome cap was on the car since new, it is because the dealer put it there. There never was an option for a chrome cap on this or any other GM car in 1962-63. Unless you can find a GM part number on that cap, it was not put on at the factory. The reason I vote for red is because it cheapens the car. Those cars just look like something that came from J.C. Whitney, always have , always will. Sorry just my opinion and what I know because I lived in the Chevy dealerships back then.
