snap rings


hey guys silly question ive never delt with snap rings  then i needed some for my engine stand cuz i broke one so i bought some new ones . so i don't break the new ones how do i get them on?

in a pinch you can use a finishing nail and vise grips

Like belly buttons there are 2 types of snap rings, innies and outies. Each requires a different tool ( there is a combo tool )

You should be able to find a combo tool for about $10, several sets of tips for differnt jobs:

I've got a pair of long needle nose pliers I got for a buck at Canadian Tire. I filed the tips down and I can insert the tips into the rings on the snap rings. It takes a little fiddling, but they work for both innies and outies. For the outies, I have to use two hands and open the pliers..

That's why the Red Cross has so much trouble getting mechanics and carpenters to donate blood, they always are donating at their workplace.
