my last post we were talking about the fact that my documentation sheet says (sold in province of ontario dealer unknown) well you folks told me to look for the build sheet under the dash and seats, no luck but what I did find is really cool, check the pics out!! the original key with the maple leaf emblem on it and an old leather dealer tag from len schmidt walkerton ontario with a pontiac emblem! tell me your thoughts and do any of you have the original keys to your cars??? would be nice to know what years they made the keys with the maple leaf on them? let me know if you have one and the year of your car, maybe just 1967 year?
THATS COOL ,LEN SCHMIDT DEALERSHIP HAS BEEN GONE FOR QUITE A FEW YEARS NOW. I KNOW A FEW GUYS THAT WORKED THERE AS MECHANICS AND ONE AS A PARTS MAN. ABOUT 5 MIN. AWAY.
I bought the car from the second owner, I contacted him about the key and he told me he lost it ages ago.he told me that is the only key that came with the car from the original owner. he had one made (the one I have been using)he told me after he lost that one he got a replacment from the dealer as the codes are still available. that was back in the early 90S . so with that said there is no dought in my mind that this is the original key! the original owner only had this one and used this one, too much of a coincidence for a canadian made car in 1967 to have the key with a maple leaf. now on to the dealer tag, it was probably just put on as a seller/promotional item to help his name get around. anyway would like to hear if anyone else has a key like this?? does anyone even have there original key left?? thanks for all your fine folks input and help.
I have most of my original keys for my cars 1964 thru 1968, adn none of them look like that. I will stick with my original theory But, very cool that you found them, a real keepsake thats for sure!

MY BEAUMONT HAS 4 STUDDED TIRES AND 2 BLOCKHEATERS......AND LOTS OF OIL UNDERNEATH. The other one has a longer roof.
The original keys would have been steel (nickel?) plated in colour over a brass coloured material (no idea what the material actually is). Most aftermarket keys were brass in colour. My original 1969 key has the GM corporate logo with the "Mark of Excellence" slogan under it.
Sure is a cool looking key , but I do not think is original. Period correct key would have a octigon design. That square end was not used on GM cars until 69. But still cool looking for sure. A hint that not original is that it does not have the factory key number code on it. Or any were that it could have been were it is knocked out like factory ones have.

Have what appears to be original keys for our 65 Parisienne CS. None have the maple leaf logo. 2 keys have the knockouts missing. Says "GM your key to greater value" on both sides 1 key still has the numbered knockout. 1 side says "GM your key to greater value". Other side says "Briggs and Stratton Corporation Milwaukee, Wis, USA." I set of keys is on a ring with a metal Rumble tag attached.
I've got what I believe to be the original keys for my '66. Both have the knockouts still in place with the key codes stamped in them. The key codes match the numbers I found on the build sheet under the rear seat.
The ignition/door key is the old GM octagon (like the one under the Maple Leaf key in the photos above) and the trunk key has the oval/round head.
The Maple Leaf key is pretty cool but I didn't think that rectangular key shape was used until about 68, 69 or 70 - about the same time they came out with locking steering columns. Anybody know for sure when they started using the rectangular ignition key rather than the octagonal one?

yes this is very interesting. with the info you fine folks have provided me with is it possible there was a change over sometime in the 1967 year?? maybe early 1967 cars have the hex and latter produced vehicles have the rectangle?? just a thought. lets try and hear from all the people with there original keys and cars made from 67-68 what key do they have?? and what time of year there car was made??

'64 Parisienne CS "barn find" - last on the road in '86 ... Owner Protection Plan booklet, original paint, original near-mint aqua interior, original aqua GM floor mats, original 283, factory posi, and original rust.
My 67 Parisienne 2+2 was built in early Jan.. one key is octagon with the knockouts still in place, with the key codes.. and just below it has the GM, with key off grater value wrote on one side and it says Rochester Products Division on the other side.. the same for the round key.
As noted above, the '69 and up cars had the square keys to fit the column ignition switches..
Both styles were/are available w/ the same keyway so blanks of both styles can be used in either ignition if cut to suit the individual switch interior pinning codes..
The key blanks w/ the maple leaf were available from Dominion Lock or some other Canadian company...may still even be available today!.

Just wanted to make sure you were looking in the right spot for the build sheet. In 67 the build sheet would be found on top of the speedo cluster. You won't see it by looking under the dash, you need to remove the speedo housing screws and pull the top out gently. Slide you hand over the top of the housing and you should find it if it's still there. Might want to double check!!
