General Motors has released a memo to all it's employees instructing them to no longer refer to Chevrolet as a "Chevy". Apparenty the reason is it causes "confusion" in other countries (Perhaps in China where they have "Chery"?).
However it is appropriate to call a "Chevy" engine a "Canadian Pontiac" engine.

and a Beaumont and Acadian would be a ?? GM engine? orphan engine
Enough of the political correctness already! For %^&$ sakes already, we can't call our cars chevy for fear of confusing some for foreigner In a different country? Man I hate LIBERALS! This crap needs to end! Chevy is part of our history, now we can let others dictate what is good to say in our country? Gonna stop now in case the thought police are monitoring this thread and show up at my door to "re-educate" me.
I have read a few articles on this. It is wrong to suggest it is politically driven. The reason is for brand consistency.
In my own organization we tell employees how to refer to our name and they all do BUT what the public calls us is what they call us and it isn't the same. Same situation as Chevy vs. Chevrolet. It's sort of like swimming upstream.
This is what the marketing guys get paid big bucks for! We'd all be better off with a lot less marketing in our lives. ( this from a guy who has a marketing diploma )
Just something else stupid in this world. The more this kind of stuff goes on the more i hate it. Maybe i'm just regressing as i get older but i read that and think enough is enough. Maybe with it being a Monday morning reading this i'm an extra bit grumpy.
