RE: Might as well call it a build thread.....

Next up on the list is probably the gas tank. Hopefully my parts place has one instock. The breather is cracked and its leaks when the tank is full. Atleast the tank has some dents in it, which gives me another reason to put a new one in.

Gas tank is in, as well as a new sending unit, straps and bolts.  Fuel gauge works meow. Took the old one apart and it was hooped, which didnt really suprise me.

Been lookin at rear sway bars for a while, luckily RPM had um instock. It was the same price as the one I picked out from summit which was alright.  Only thing I had to buy that the kit didnt come with was some plates to box the lower trailing arm.  So out they came, welded um in.  Put the sway bar in, and all I can say is it handles so much better, the back end just stays flat during hard corners.

Couple pics of the old tank, it was def time to retire it:

Well not much has really been done on the car lately. Fixed the wipers yesterday finally, the E clip had fallen of a while back.  Repaired some more hillbilly wiring under the hoodno, still no where close to being done fixing it all up.

She did however roll over to 77,777,7 miles yesterday so we snagged a couple pics while driving, I thought it was kinda neat biggrin.

Also we pulled my block and heads completely apart. Dropped them off at the machine shop on friday to have them checked out. The plan is to build a 383, which we figure should give her some more scoot.

Well have a bit of a update.  Wish I would have gone with some alum heads, we are able to make the vortec's I have work. But for what I have into them I could have gotten a nice set of Eddy E-tec's.  So far I have got comp beehive springs, screw in studs, new guides/exhaust seats.  When my engine builder was pulling the factory rocker studs, one of the last ones balled up and created a nice big v-crack.  Luckily it is fixable, but I am not really happy about it.Oh well, live and learn I guess.

Ended up going with  a Comp xr276 cam, and a Eagle rotating assembly.  We figure it should be good for 400 horse/450 ft lbs.

Ordered a 3k stall converter and 770 holley, which just came in yesterday.

I did the door pins/bushings  as well. I still have to pull the drivers fender and align that door though. The passenger side closes and lines up great.

Well, the motors out. Just have to load the car up on the trailer and take it to the car wash.  And yes those are custom tranny linesdisbelief

Picked up a 770 holley and 3k B/M stall for it friday. Havent seen the vintage holley decals for a while. Figured it was worth a pic.  My house is like a shrine of car parts right nowbiggrin

Well not much of a update. The Pistons I got with the stroker kit measured a bit small. And when the machine shop bored/honed the cylinders they took it to .031 over. Thus I have about .0015 clearance per side of the piston-bore right now. We found some speed pro's that we ordered up and should be a better fit than the KB's. If the machine shop would have listened to what I said and took it .03 we would be fine. Oh well.

Picked up the trans yesterday. Had it beefed up a bit, and tossed in a trans go stage II shift kit. Hopefully I can get some work done on it this weekend!

Well we lucked out with some nice weather this week.  Had about 4 inches of snow on the ground since tuesday.

So friday I hauled Beau down to a car wash and gave the engine bay a bath.  Tossed the transmission in it yesterday, put new U joints in the drive shaft. Painted the engine bay semi gloss black today.  I also put a new trans cooler/lines on it as well.

Slowly but surely  its starting to come together.

ell guess i should kinda update this thread. Cars sitting under a couple feet of snow. The motor is pretty much ready for final assembly. We ported the heads at work the other night, gave them a bath and wrapped them up. Hoping to have the motor done in the next month or so. I splurged the other day and snagged a set of black crinkle valve covers, also picked up a 8x12x20 tarp'ed shed for it that I will put up when the snow goes.

Well pick up some plug boots and heat boot for the trans lines yesterday. Took it for a 15 mile shaker, it seems to run strong and smooth. The valve covers had a push in cover so I picked on of them up too. Still needs a good tune which is next on the list and to hook the kick down cable up as well. I scuffed and painted the air cleaner lid flat black just now which should look cleaner I would think.

Well i have about 50 miles on it now.  A few minor problems that will be addressed:

-need larger rad/ mount the fan shroud i have for it

-timing cover is leaking around oil pan a bit

-Thirdly I just swapped out the old linkage style throttle set up to a cable setup which I borrowed from my 90 suburban i have for parts.

Mocked up( it now has three screws and is painted, the only real modifications that were done was cutting the new throttle petal mount down, and drilling a couple holes.  It works great now, no more binding and sticking, and I dont have to have super stiff springs on the throttle to keep it from sticking.

Thanks, it works great. The solid linkage was fine for the carter carb that was on the car before, but with this set up it just wanted to bind and stick at 3000 rpm.

Update-

Well got motivated the other day, re sealed the rear cover. Pretty much had to drop the oil pan to get it back together. Hope it doesnt leak, this time I added silicone between the oil pan gasket/pan and timin cover.

I took the rad in, it was finished today I believe. Went with a 3 core high efficiency piece. I picked up some ready rod, and tubin to make the mounts for my fan shroud. Might have a pic update in a couple days.

Rads in, shrouds mounted. Had to put my flex fan back on, ma clutch fan is a lil to big.

Set timing, it was out 20 degrees.  Set it at 32, runs real good now.  Only thing its lacking now is posi.

Also the new rad seems to work good.  It runs at about 160F. most of the time, i never saw it go above 180 when I went for a good drive just now.

My pro form balancer installer which broke right after this picture. Cheap taiwanese tools.  Luckily it came right out. No it wasnt seated all the way.

Painted my air cleaner to match now.

I took these:

And put them here:

And mounted them like so:

I mounted the shroud with some ready rod, aluminum tubing.  I bolted the rad to the core support, than put the alum spacers on and drilled and mounted the shroud.

Well I kind of got motivated again, Ive had enough of the back tires rubbin the quarter panels. Some on put 15x10 centerlines with 4 inch back space rims on there. I wanted something different, but didnt want to spend alot. Ended up going with 15x8" Aero 50 series wheels with 4 inch back space. Got them for a killer price. They only had 2 in stock, and had to order 2 more. So I picked 2 of them up to test fit them today. The rear seem to fit well and the tire should tuck up into the fender well now. I still have to track down some center caps for them though.
