66 Acadian SD Question

I have found a older gentleman who wants to sell his 66 Acadian Sd, and I am going to go see it. Just wondering how you can tell if a Acadian is a L79 or not without imediate documentation from GM. Is there any clues other than the motor itself which may or may not have the decals on it?

That one is pretty simple if it hasn't been messed with.

66 Canso had 3 engines. 6cyl, 283 or L79.

If it has an original 3/8 fuel line from the tank to the front,  it's an L79 car.

Do you know the things to look for on the car? I can make you a list that may help if you like.

A few things...

Is the L79 Air Cleaner there w/ opposite pointing snorkles?.
Does it have a 12 Bolt...if so, check the axle code!.
There's other possibilities but the stamped 66-L79 Suffix Code should be 'Z1'..
Being a Canadian car, look at the Cowl tag for clues...just in case!?

Click the below links for a couple o' past threads here...

If what you see looks real, TELL NO-ONE, make sure to bring home the Vin and get in touch w/ George at GM Canada Vintage Services, pay extra for the 'quick-service' documments and if all's good, QUICKLY GO BUY THE CAR!!!

If you need more info, get ahold of Bob in BC who has the L79 Registry..
I don't have any contact info handy but he's a great guy and a wealth of L79 knowledge especially concerning the Canadian cars!.

Good luck!!!

Besides the above mentioned items-

It has to be a manual transmission. Make sure there is no M35 (Powerglide) on the cowl tag.

It has to have had factory dual exhaust (check for taipipe hangers/mountings)

It has to be a model 718 to be a V8 SD car, 716 to be a V8 Canso.

And as stated, the best thing is to get the GM documents if you suspect it's an L79 car.
