Wow is that car ever stoked. What you have ther eis a US built car specifically for GM Canada market. The documentation provided now is much better than that and has a other information such as prodcution facility and date of build.

As far as Jim Wangers goes, I am one Pontiac person who takes everything he says with a grain of salt. He is a Legend in his own mind! GTO only built in Canada, in Oshawa for 1970 and 1973 and not that many either.

I know....I tried to explain this to phs...lol....im going to try them again...maybe their info is better now. Also interesting is the PON on the cowl tag...I thought it was just P in 72 and PON for 71 models.

I have the build sheet that they sent me too....but they didn't copy it very well and all thats really legible is the serial number and all the option codes....and they missed a few options on the sheet i displayed, such as the y96. I don't think they were quite as good at this as PHS....but they did tell me that they have paperwork for every car made by GM in canada.

What is the meaning of the Y10 option "Build up custom door and quarter"?

I would guess that it would be the GTO on the door, but the 1/4 is the same for GTO and Lemans

I remember looking for RPO Y10 before and concluded it was used to denote deluxe interior door panel and quarter trim.

Nice car!.
Look under the carpet for the broadcast sheet..

So at the end of the day the mystery is solved. What you have is a GTO built to Canadian specifications as evidenced by the Z49 code for GM of Canada.

GM Canada has documents on two types of cars, Canadian Built and Canadian Sold like yours so PHS will not have any data on this car. End of story. smile

All the paperwork was sent to Canada. I guess they didn't keep a copy.  I wonder if your car is even included when PHS says there's so many 1972 455 HO's. That's why there's a heated discussion on how many Judge's and 455HO's there were

I have often wondered about the production figures quoted on GTO's and whatever else we discuss, whether they include Canadian production and sales.

99% of the time you can't even find production facility 1 or 2 listed in all the big muscle car books and VIN decoders so I think the answer is no.
