nasty tiring job of scraping 50+ years of crud off the frame
that's how much from the rear motor mount frame brakets alone
and there is stll more to do ...
but then I guess I wouldn't be able to say "I did it myself" when it all looks nicely painted, plus I tend to be picky about things so if the guy I hired didn't do as good a job as I wanted I would risk offending him ... <sigh>
so I guess I will just forge ahead and keep scraping.
Ain't working on old cars fun? It is, right?

For me it's not whether I want to do these type of tasks myself or not. My problem is that I am at work earning more than it would cost to pay someone to do the labour.... If I didn't work so much, I would gladly scrape away at the underside of a car. I dream of the day I have that much time. Until then I best keep working on the retirement fund!
Ah the fun stuff, it is thankless work but you have to have a goal and in the end the rewards are worth it. I spent three weeks with a needle scaler(air powered too) cleaning floor pans and frame sections. When you finally get to the paint stage and see the finished product its very gratifying. KEEP AT IT..l
One of the best things about Canadian Poncho guys, always interesting and insightful comments.
Mike, you only have ... umm, let's see, date of birth subtracted from age 60 or so, compared to the year 2010 ... hmmm, don't think about it, just do what you're doing, you've got it right, work now, save some, the day will come when you'll be retired by me and can putter around on the cars as much as you want.
Ken, you're right, the frame on my 56 is in really good shape, no significant rust even on the body mounts. Maybe that layer of crud protected it all those years? I suspect it was a Western car since I bought it from California, so probably spared the salty roads of Ontario?
Andy, you are exactly correct and I do keep at it and will someday have the nice shiny painted end result. Already have the interior and the suspension to that stage, next is the engine compartment.
Thanks guys.
Dave

A few years ago, I did the bottom of a Beaumont. As I recall, it took me in the area of 25 hours to do it. Mike's got the right idea! Find a good paying job and hire somebody!
If I am right, this picture I took shows the fruits of about 90 minutes of labour.....
