Saginaw 4 speed leak

I thought that I would come to the experts to ask the easiest way to fix a leak in the trans between the main case and the tail shaft case.Leak is not bad enough that I've rushed to fix but it has to be done sometime.
My question would be,can I install a new gasket with the trans still in the car?I have a pit in my garage so getting under the car isn't a problem.I thought I could drop the driveshaft after blocking up the rear of the engine and removing 5 bolts holding tail case to main case. There are no linkages on tail case and I think it should pull back.
Sound right?Thanks for any help.

Should work, you may have to drop the crossmember to get the ext. hsg. off + the speedo cable??? did this on my 64 Catalina to change the speedo gears. Tight fit but it will come off. I used black "silicone" to seal up the ext. case when "stuffin" it back together

Thanks dualquad. The speedo gear will probably need to come off.I was looking at my shop manual about disassembling a Saginaw when the trans. is on your work bench and there's a snap ring that's at the front of what they call extension case and it looks like it's inside main case until extension is pulled back. You can't pull back until clutch gear is removed and that's at front of trans.I think you(not you,ME) gotta remove trans!!
