Well first I must admit I don't currently own a poncho, however; I am hoping to change this in the next week or so. I am currently looking at a 67 Beaumont with a 427 for sale. If things go right I'll have it in the garage within a couple weeks. He is asking $25,000. I don't know where the motor came from, He has owned it for 5 years put on about 2000 miles. Turbo 400 w/th B&M shift kit. 411 posi rear end I am told that it is all steel, no filler but who really knows. This car is about a nine hour drive away and I am hopefully going to head up with a truck and trailer to check it out next week. I am 28 years old with limited experince with these cars, but have been an fan forever. Any tips on things I shoud ask the current owner or things to make sure I look at would be more than appricated. Thanks everyone, I hope to learn a lot on here. Kyle Here is the car

Welcome to the site, that is a nice Beaumont! I live in Victoria also and have a 66 SD. Hope to see you in the near future . I usually go to Francellis on Saturday night, and then we head down to the cruise ship terminal around 8pm.
Do you have any info on the car, such as the first 6 digits of the VIN? Also the data off the tag that should be on the firewall on the drivers side (although I don't see it in the picture) would help with figuring out the car as far as powertrain, build date, original colour etc.

I just looked at a 67 Chevelle for $32,000 in very nice shape, but with a small block. Yours might be a great deal. Take someone with you who knows a bit about them.

I'm hoping to get the VIN tonight, is there a index on the forum that I can use to find out what the numbers mean?

I would not necessarily post the whole VIN. Maybe post it up here but make the last two digits "xx" or something. The VIN won't tell you as much about the car as the cowl tag but the two together are needed to make sure they "agree", proving it's an authentic car.

So the first five digits of the VIN are 73617 and by my limited knowledge that means that is is a Beaumont Custom V8 2 door hardtop. Unfortunately there is no cowl tag for the car.

I am not sure exactly which thread to send you to to read up on 736 cars but in a nutshell, an SD can be a 736 car up until approximately the first week in December. That is why a cowl tag would be a big help. Too bad it's not there.
If you go in the Beaumont section you will find lots of talk about 736 cars with option A51 (Sports Package) that makes them an SD. This is for the cars prior to that changeover to 738 in the VIN after that date for SD cars.
Clear as mud???!!!

To add to that, if you send a private message to 68 SD with your whole VIN, he may be able to tell you if you have an early car or a late car.

If the car had the A51 option, would it not have had buckets and a factory console? It appears in the picture to not have a factory console. would this not mean that a bench seat was replaced with buckets, and a aftermarket console?
roughly December 1st 1966 there were in around 4000 cars built ,so if the last 5 digits of the vin is under 04000 it could be a 736 Sport Deluxe or Custom after that it would be a Custom

Agreed. I was speculating that since it has buckets and no console, the console may have been removed. It seems pretty modified so anything is possible.
One way to know for sure would be to spend the money and get it documented at GM Vintage.
