Are you kidding me? A bench seat 4 speed SD 396 car? How cool is that? Is that an original? That must be about 1 of 1 or 1 of 2!!!!!

cnt see the colour code or the all important 738, but i assume it is ,if it is its a rare bench car! code 759
cant see a tranny code ?,is it a 3 speed?
not much info on the tag for a SD,must be a base optioned one

With the variations in 738 VIN tags anything is possible!!!

Remember the note I sent you a while back showing two almost identical cars where the trans code was stamped in completely different places on the tag?

The maroon bench seat 4-speed 67SD car is the one on the cover of "the chevelle report" nov 1984-the car was then from Breslau, it later went to Toronto/Richmond Hill and now has moved just north of Fergus, good car with old paint-owner has 409 cars too.

But Carl, on a real SD car(738).  The bench seat was standard equipment.  Buckets were optional.

Yes, but how often does a bench seat SD pop up?

I don't think I ever even heard of one until the blue one of Ken's showed up a couple of years ago.

You guys missed the most interesting thing on the one car.

The car with the blue/black firewall and cowl tag has no options stamped in the cowl tag?  If its a 67 Beaumont SD then its the extremely rare, no option, plain jane 67 Beaumont SD.

Not too many of them around.  That would make that car a 396 V8 mated to a three speed on the column or on the floor.  A rather interesting car to see in person.

I can hardly imagine a 3 speed "bolt action" 396 car! That would have to be one of one!

But, I guess that 66 Acadian L79 post car on here with the 3 speed column shift is likely just as unique.

Well the photo shows a floor shifter, likely a HD 3 speed in my humble opinion.

July 2010 007.jpg

Funny that just last week I was talking about a Big Block bench seat column shift Beaumont. My cottage mechanic worked for Unionville Pontiac back in the day and did his apprenticeship there, he is semi retired now. Anyway he owned a 65 tri power GTO, then he told me about the ultimate sleeper, his words, a Beaumont 396/350 horse car bench seat with column shift auto. All the guys would die for a test drive when it came in for service. He ended up buying it giving up the GTO and said it was scary fast. He followed  that car up with a 1969 Beaumont wagon 307 as in his words the kids started arriving.

Anyway I said to Ole, man you had some nice and rare cars. He had no idea just how rare his bench seat car or wagon were. Spoken like so many guys of this era, they were just fun cars, when one was used up we got another one he said.
