Hi I am new at this. I just purchased a 1959 Pontiac Strato Chief that needs some minor work, suspension. I am getting mixed info on the car depending on where i go, some say its american some say canadian, some say US on Canadian body and according to my info it matters for parts. The information on the tag on firewall is Style # 7119, Body 249849, Paing 2012, Trim 800, and below looks like B.9.0 or 8.9.0. The tag on the door post says Gm Canada, SN # 9711949947, Engine # W182839, the engine is a 261 6 cylinder, transmission is 3 speed standard. The parts I'm looking for are 2 lower ball joints, 1 left inner tyrod end, 3 universal joints, carrier bearing, and rear shoes. Tune up parts needed are plugs, points, condensor, cap and rotar button, generator belt. So is my car us or canadian model? Where would i obtain these parts? Please email me with information, if the above is not enough let me know. The car is mint inside and out but needs these parts for inspection and transfer. Any help would be appreciated.
Hi Desmond and welcome!! Yes, your car is Canadian and like all of have learned here is that when it comes to suspension parts, always ask for, in your case, a '59 Bel-Air. We are built on Chevrolet frames, so ask for them instead.
And like always here, pictures are always welcomed!!!
As mentioned,.. the front end parts from a '59 Bel Air are the same as for your Canadian Pontiac. And you're really lucky about the tune up parts which you need. They're very inexpensive and available at almost any auto parts store. For enything mechanical or chassis ,.... just ask for '59 Chevy Bel Air parts.,. and you'll always get the right parts.
Beautiful car by the way! Where did you find it? Any pics to share are always appreciated by all fellow CP members. Are you going to keep the car original or modify?
You'll find this site to be very helpful. The members here are always willing to help with info, problems or almost anything related to Canada Pontiacs or "old iron". It's a bunch of great guys who love to share and help out where ever they can. So you'll find a lot of resources here in the people who are members with Canaidan Poncho.
Great car purchase! Happy '59 cruising!
