Hi guys I was hoping someone would have a starting point for parts for my '52 tranny. I've lost low gear and reverse just the other day (I had to push it back into it's parking spot, I had no idea my parkade was that sloped!) It sat for many, many years before I purchased so I'm hoping just the seals have gone. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Chevrolet was no performance car in 1952, and wouldn't be until the Chevrolet V-8 was introduced in 1955. The two 1952 Chevrolet engines and transmissions were basically the same as 1950 and 1951 cars.
If a customer likes to do more driving than just step on the throttle and brake, the powerglide had the advantage.
For the person that did not mind shifting, the standard transmission was better
seems POWERGLIDE is the trans name IF it is then parts are easy to get....
Before you make any expensive decisions, have you looked at the transmission mounts. In the past I had the same issue with no reverse on my powerglide. As It turned out my trans mounts were shot. I replaced the mounts and it lifted the trans back into its original position which gave the linkage the distance to click into reverse. this worked for 5 more years.
Depending on your model of car if you have a 2500 series car you might have a hydromatic, Same as in US pontiac's, not a Canadian pontiac powerglide. Make sure of which you have for parts and repair. But looking at the trim on your car I'm betting its a powerglide.
