Hey all, well I am heading out to look at a 67 Beaumont that I have been interested in this Thursday and I need some tips. This is my first muscle car purchase although I am not a classic car newb. I plan on checking all of the basics but I am looking for things that might be common problems for this year of car. I figured who better to ask but the pros right? The car: 67 custom 2dr hrd top 427 with Turbo 400 trans. The owner has had it for 9 years and is a classic car guru (so I am told) these cars are his life. Only things he has mentioned about stuff where work is needed is two small blisters in the paint at the bottom of the drivers side rear pillar. They go away in the heat so he thinks it is moisture between primer and paint. Leaks a small amount of oil when its cool, after the car warms up seals must fatten up and no leaks. He does recommend getting an aluminum rad but he does have a dual electric fan set up that needs to be installed. And thats it apparently. For those that haven't seen the car yet here it is.

It's Mine!!!! All Mine!!!!!!! Beautiful car, I saw it and knew that I was not going to leave without it on the back of the trailer. Couple of surprises though, it does not have a 427 it's a 454, casting number suggests from either a car or truck around 73-85. Either way it is incredibly strong. Did a compression test and all eight were ether 156psi or 160 after 5 cranks. Needless to say it is a bit of a beast with the 411's and the turbo 400. Took it for a good drive then got it up on the lift for a closer look. Someone around 12 years ago spent a ton of money on this car. It also has ladder bar suspension with adjustable air shocks in the rear. Found one small rust hole in the frame where the main cross member goes to the other side in the front but the rest of the frame is totally fine, found that kind of strange. I am guessing that maybe some dirt got stuck and since the car only been driven a handful of time in the last 10 years it rusted a spot the size of a nickle. All other areas including trunk pan look totally new. Ran a magnet across all the common trouble spots and she didn't slide off once! Interior looks great and he threw in the centre console with the deal, plus a set of magnaflow mufflers since it just has headers to H pipe to cherry bombs to 3" exhaust, it sounds pretty bad ass right now but I think i would like to put those magnaflows on.
On the test drive the brake booster went, I'm guessing the diaphragm, so need to fix that. I think I am going to go ahead and put in an aluminum cross-flow to keep her cool. The stock rad for the 283 just wont cut it if your not always getting air over it. Listen to me I a rambling on and on, Well look out for a purple beast on the streets in Victoria. I'll be the guy always at the gas station! Thanks guys for answering my questions before I bought the Beaumont of my dreams.

double check that 454, you may be surprised to find it's a 427. They share the same bore diameter. the tell tale is double check the harmonic dampner, the 454 is an externally balanced engine therefore the dampner will have a relief area cut outof the inner diameter. The 427 is internal and will be a concentrically smooth dampner, no relief .
a while ago , I traded a truck for a rebuilt 454, it was a truck 454 block, the dampner through me, turned out to be a 427 !! you just never know .
