RE: 1965 beaumont L79 for sale

I love to see the cars stay in Canada. With that said, I have no problem with an out-of-country owner of a unique Canadian car IF he is truly appreciative of what he has and not just another investor looking to profit from our hobby.

I hope I worded that in such a way that I made my point correctly!

I can think of a few great examples of some Candian Pontiac-loving Americans on our site, as Todd mentioned. Works for me, eh?

I have a North Carolina friend who would dearly love to own a 67 SD 396 Beaumont, for example.

Congrats on the fanstastic find!!!
Looking forward to the pics...and the GM Canada info!.

As far as the Canada only debate, I've been in that situation many times w/ these vintage racing snow-machines and hafta' admit that the US guys always show when they say they will and happily w/ cash in hand too...most Canadians give you the dick-around over and over also ask the 'will you take' questions without being ready to do so even if you agree!.

Similar thing w/ vintage aircraft...many complain but after the Canadian government gave such grief to those trying to take that old Trans Canada Airlines Connie back to the states a couple years ago after it sat in Toronto too long and nobody wanted it, we're lucky they're still restoring it w/ TCA paintjob!.

http://www.conniesurvivors.com/CF-RNR.htm

Canadian, American or whatever...if everyone has a fair chance at something, those who actually buck up deserve something more than anyone who wishes they could but stays silent when the time comes!.

Thanks for the soap-box!.

i do agree also. I love these cars in canada. but with that said I have many friends in other countrys that are canadian car collectors and do love these cars. I have no issues with true colletors taking these cars and enjoying them, wherever that might be! I have no issues with anyone owning any car! after all once they buy it they can do what they want with it.Its there money they spent. I do believe crushing them over restoring them is terrible of course.or collectors that buy them and store them away for years and no one gets to enjoy them, learn about them or see them. Its more terrible when I take my 1967 acadian out for a drive and folks are asking me what it is?? or even worse when I get a comment like..nice nova/chevy 11 no  I guess at the end of the day its great to see collectors all over the world wanting and loving these cars. that just shows how amazing our canadian cars are and the heritage they have.biggrin that is the best compliment my friends, hope no one is ticked, and can understand everyone has there own opinion and thats what make this great free country even better! listening to everyones point of views and being able to take them with thick skinsmile cheers.

I may be a wrong but if I am not mistaken it was also due to US owners of our cars in the most part that the CPSC chapter of POCI was formed.

I don't care what part of the world the owners are from, I am just happy that these rare cars are being preserved.

Considering the fact that I scooped up my Nova from Nebraska where an American likely would have purchased it, I'd say you are just fine continuing your collecting Bill....!!!

Thanks Chris.

I do have to add though, I think we have pretty good bragging rights in our Canadian Pontiacs, Acadians and Beaumonts. They are certainly not the (insert the "ba****d word here) that they so long were called.

As a matter of fact, on my trips to the POCI conventions I had to be careful not to get ****y because as you I'm sure have experienced, they garner a LOT of positive attention!!!

While it's wonderful to see them here at "home", it's also great to see someone restore on like Bill has. I won't ever have the time or resources to have a car the quality of his. I'm a "driver" but I love looking at the nut and bolt resto's.

as kelico said it is amazing this is still here in canada.I have always been an upfront honest person, and what I am about to say my tick some folks off but here I go. In my opinion these acadians and beaumonts belong in canada! they were made here and sold here! if they were meant to be in any other country they would have made them and sold them there! it is a shame that every year more slip away out of canada for future collectors here, due to the ol mighty buck and what foolks in other countrys are willing to pay. one day people will raelize this! I will inform you folks of one thing I know and the canadian gov. is getting stricker on. the Gov. has started realizing that canadian heritage needs to be protected and some years ago passed a law that protects against exporting any item of canada that is found to be historically significant to this country!!! Its true look into it yourself. I have known one guy that was charged and the item returned to canada after taking it to the united states. he even had an export permit from export canada! RCMP didnt care, as the law over rides any permits. the guy lost the item (dont want to say what it was but it did have a motor, we will leave it at that) not to mention being charged and all the money he paid for it. so with that said any one of these acadians and beaumonts fall into that catagory and as time goes on I believe alot of folks down south are going to be upset when there cars are ordered back to canada. I dont say this to scare anyone, just the facts. anyway with that said because money is not an issue with me, I will buy and collect as many of these cars I can and keep them where they belong in canada!!!!

Oh, hogwash-I used to be into Corvettes and I'd hear everyone belly ache when one of "our" Canadian sold ones got exported to the states-ya we all want them in Canada but we don't want to pay ! These guys would belly ache when someone would export but when they themselves wanted to sell they wanted equvilent dollars or actually exported them themselves !

Great you saved a great car from the dreams of a back corner of a garage-but do something with it and lets not belly ache about what might have been.

Hey imagine if nobody exported "their" cars to us !

I'm really glad the car is a "survivor" more than staying in the country. and with the handful of cars that do end up in other locations.. I think we can all rest assured that they are with enthusiasts and, even though the appreciation may be different, they still appreciate them.
I took on the project I have (I swear it's almost done.. LOL) because it was either to me or the crusher ( according the the guy that gave me the car).
At this point... I'm not sure I should have saved the car.. but.. once I'm driving it I'm sure my mind will be in a different state.
great debate just the same, and it all started because of a great find. VERY COOL
THANK YOU!!!

First the cars were going to the states, now our minds, when will it end!!!?
As much as i like seeing the Cdn cars stay in Canada, it would seem hypocritical to take a stance knowing that someday I might like a Bowling Green car in my garage...
