A Mini Tour Of My "Hood"

I decided to post a few pics I took today ... all these locations are a within a 2 minute drive of our house.
These pics don't do the neighbourhood justice!

The fishing village (French River) from the lookout:

"Our" private beach:

New London lighthouse (my Mother-in-law was born there, her Father was the Keeper). Sand dunes and a beautiful beach:

A view of the foot of our property. A huge Cormorant colony/nesting area:

Cape Tryon lighthouse. A lighthouse located on a 50' cliff:

A lot of Lucy Maude Montgomery/Ann Of Green Gables stuff is very close by as well as a few more fishing villages.
This was not paid for by the PEI tourist bureaubiggrin

I showed my wife those pics and she said "That's where we are going to retire so start pricing out properties"...

Beautiful pictures. To me anything with water on it is nice and that is probably still affordable too. Probably abit cool for swimming though. Scenes like that just relax me, being by an ocean is my favorite place to be, only thing is it has cost me tens of thousands over the years. Some pretty good memories though.

Very nice indeed. My wife is from that part of the coutry (Nfld) and we were married in Halifax. Some of my favorite days have been spent zooming around Nfld. (We usually get there every second summer.)
You are very lucky to be there! Thanks for sharing the pic's Darryl!

Do we ever have a beautiful country ! Each part has it's own beauty but it is hard to beat PEI in the summer time. Thanks Darryl!

That is very cool. If I can't retire in Northwest Ontario, I know where we're headed!

My wife and I loved the Maritimes on our one and so far, only visit, in 1995.

I was there a month or so ago and it all looks like that. Really nice with nice people. Tons of cars alots of car guys. I found a bushed out wrecking yard as a treat too! Lots of cars rotting in the woods. I found a Acadian out in a field and couldn't get back to it so I will look for his number and pass it on to you since your local. Maybe you can pass those parts on to somebody or turn a buck.

We were out there last year, our Daughters boyfriends family lives out there, The Dingwells, they live out by fortune Bridge, close to Sourey. Not sure on the spelling on that one. There is sure a lot of lighthouses out there, we did get to go through a few of them. And Churches, must be hundreds of them. We did the Ann of Green Gables tour, Had fresh Lobster at a friends place in Cavendish. Neat place.

Thanks for all the compliments, but I'm not an Islander (they guard this designation fiercely) biggrin It is mind-blowing here!

Newfoundland is very mind-blowing as well Geoff.

Hey Rick, it's Souris, pronounced like Surrey. That's "down east" on the Island. Dingwall is a common name on the Island ... There is a place called Dingwall Mills.

65sssd, let me know of a contact for that Acadian and I'll do the legwork for parts for somebody.

Carl, don't worry, your cabin and where it is, is in a great spot. I've travelled that whole area.

Jerel, one thing I've found out living here is the calming qualities of water. My wife & I love beach-combing and sea-glassing, and the waves just chill you out immediately. Before you know it, you forget about everything else.

If anyone comes out this way, let me know, we'll get together.

Barry, we should start up a thread on this topic!

I love it.  My work colleague was at the Tryon Lighthouse two weeks ago.  He has family there too.  Maybe you're neighbours.

From what I remember, Her Boyfriend said their family has been there all along. He's got a cottage out that way on the water, no neighbours to see, just the mosquitos, LOL. He's even got a road named after him, Chad's road, LOL. His parents still have lots of property out there as well. Next time I will let u know when we come out and we can tour in Pontiac style, LOL.

Good times in the maritimes. The people are even better than the scenery! If you visit, bring your appetite!
