how rare are L79's

how rare are L79's
wow I didn't realize there were only 23 of them made---I owned one of those when I was a young fella. I grew up in Parksville, BC and ordered a 1965 Beaumont Sport Deluxe from Carter GM in Vancouver, 327 ci, 350 hp, 2 door hardtop, dark blue with light blue upholstery. I didn't know that it was referred to as an L79 until now.
I sold the car in about 1967 to a fella in Parksville---no room for a baby buggy---I lost track of the car after a couple years and have no idea what happened to it.
I wouldn't mind getting another one after all these years and will keep my eyes on this website and forum that I just found out about at the Kamloops Hot Nights car show last month.

Welcome here.

I hope you are prepared for sticker shock if you are looking to buy one of the 23!

I believe the one at the top of this page is for sale.

Any pictures? Unless there was two dark blue on Mist blue L-79 4 spds in Parksville that sounds like my Dads car. He bought his new in 65. I have been trying to track that car down for 15 yrs. No luck yet. What are the chances of two? Twins?

Ouch. You may not want to go any further down this path as I think you might end up kicking yourself a little more than most of us who sold their old rides...

I'm sure there were not two L79 in parksville in 1965 to 67----its a small town and I grew up there. If he bought it new he never drove it in parksville----I wonder if your Dad is the fella that I sold the car to---I forget the name of that person.

It sounds like there must have been two if one of you is the original owner of one and the other is the son of the original owner.

Pretty amazing to say the least!

Yes, some pics would be great.

Welcome Garry. Glad you found the site. I shared a little of our conversation on here after I came back from the Kamloops show. Was fun talking to you and to think you could have had an L-79 Chevelle too was pretty cool. We love hearing these stories.

Nope. He bought it new and lived in Port alberni. Funny thing is he picked up down your way. Now here is the odd part of this story. He sold it in 67 to buy a 67 396 4spd butternut yellow Beaumont. Sounds pretty familiar eh? I'll search for the photo of him in the car. Do you have any photos of yours?

You might know my dad but not me. I was born in 75! I thought the Chevelle was a 300 HP and was bought by the Mayors son? I think my dad mentioned it.

Do you have any pictures of your Dad's car from back in the day Paul? That would be cool if you could post them and we could compare...

I talked with a guy at the Barrie Automotive Flea Market back in 1989 that was selling a 1965 Chevelle 300 2-door post. During the conversation he mentioned that he owned a Canadian-built 1965 Chevelle 300 2-door post L-79 that he bought from the original owner back in the mid 1970s. He was actually a friend of the original owner and suggested the L-79 engine to the original owner back in 1965, who then decided to act on the advice and order one. I seem to recall that in 1973 the 2nd owner bought it and drove it until 1978 as a daily driver (road salt & all). It was Sierra Tan. He was breaking it for parts at the time and swapping the drivetrain into a California 1965 Malibu SS.

Does anyone remember a Barrie vendor that was selling vintage snowmobiles, like 1960s ones? That was the guy.

Yeh I wish I had it but not for the money. That one is part of the family. Both of them. I gave my Blue 65 SD 283 4 spd to my Dad this year and it is a twin of this car minus the L-79 but it will have to do. He is 65 and he now owns another 65. Kinda makes sense eh? I hope he runs the pants off of it!!
