Definetely a hardtop. No risk of sunburn on your head, stereo sounds better, heater is more effective, and the confident feeling you have of having a roof over your head just like in your pickup. It's an easy choice for me.

This coming from a guy driving his rag most of the year confuseconfuse

Hardtop:
Often better looking
Better safety
No sunburn
Better stereo
Better security
Less squeaks
Cheaper insurance?
Rarely a need to replace/repair the roof
Less interior heat loss
Less privacy

Spock would drive a hardtop (probably a post car). Kirk would drive a rag. Would one be better equipped to "pick up" the hot alien? Probably best left for another pole...

When the Top goes down-   The price goes UP.....

I have a convertible now...  Had it for 72 days!   NEVER had top down   NEVER willno
When I get time, its going down the road...  for a Hard Top

I like them both ...because I have both! You can't beat the summer drives with the roof down and my kids love it. Yet, I still love my hardtops too! Just remember... Sunblock SPF 40.

Somewhat on the topic...

26 years ago I drove down south to Calgary from Edmonton for my job interview. I put the top down, and left in the morning and arrived around noon. After the interview, it was time for the afternoon drive back north on the highway.

Driving south in the morning, the eastern located sun was on the left hand side of my face for 3 hours. Driving north in the afternoon, the western located sun was on the same left hand side of my face for 3 hours. Ouch! (With the exception of that evening, I would still vote ragtop every time.)

Spock's right ear might poke a hole in a rag top, and Kirk (William Shatner) would lose his rug driving a rag ... so I think they are both hardtop guys. Wasn't the Enterprise a hardtop? (this is too weird ... I sound like a friggin Trekkiebiggrin)

Haaa!  One thing for sure, Scotty would be a big block guy and get the maximum HP out of the car!

Hardtop for the looks, hands down. When it comes to cruising, the ragtop rules.

With that said, I feel there is an exception.... the 4th gen firebirds are a much nicer looking car as a ragtop.

I did think about the Jeep too - had a 77 CJ7 with 304 when I lived on Maui, perfect vehicle for there (go 4-wheeling where no tourists can go), no doors, just the bikini top, a big utility box bolted to the rear floor with a combination lock, kept the snorkel gear and a bathing suit in there, could go to the beach at a moments notice then lock your valuables and car keys in there ....

Confess I never took the bikini top off, but with no doors, it was like driving a ragtop without the sunburn, eh?

I like the raggables best! As he sings...."r-a, r-a-g-g, r-a-g-g t-o-p-p, raggtop"! Okay so I'm dating myself here and probably most people won't get what I've written here; you older fellas I'm
sure will though; right Carl427? Ray? LOL! There's just nothin' like droppin' the top on an 85 degree night and hittin' the roads for a moonlight cruise along the shoreline! Paradise to me. Of course, not the greatest car for warmth when driven in winter. LOL!

Thanks Ray. In 4WD low range, even with the 3-speed stick (no granny gear like the 4-speeds), I did some serious beach riding and lava-rock climbing in it. I lived on leeward Maui so very little rain and no problem driving without doors and windows, eh!

But no Big Block like Steve's, I am envious!

Dave

The tops not down very much, but it's nice to have the choice.

I've had a convertible every summer since i was 16, now I'm 55. A few of those years it was a T-top, but still a convert in the late 70's early 80's. This year I hardly even drove a convert due to the hot weather and I am on the lake in a boat all weekend getting sunburnt..

I have had several convertibles (7) and they are great!!   but unlike Earl I can't go the heat in the summer...  I love the look of rag tops with top up  lol   First convertible I noticed, was a maroon 67 GTO out of Sanford Maine, that was a real fast race car...

2 cents

Thats it!    I just thought about it,  I always love the convertibles, with the top UP because, I saw so many at the Drags.......

Yes they do Dave. My boat has a top which is up a lot. But being in the Marina every weekend since mid-May gets you lots of sun!
