6:00Pm CTV news

Anybody watch the 600 pm news, they showed the OPP safty "Blitz" on the 400 pulling plates off "left right & centre" one Jeep P/up pulling a trailer had a list a mile long with infractions, showed the drivers floor mat pulled back & there was " NO FLOOR" said they found cars & truck & trailers  UNFIT for the ROAD  I heard the radio reporters interviewing some of the drivers, & they didn't think it was right to pull the plates, wanted a warning & carry on with their trip  " DUH" They keep finding this "crap" being driven on the roads & I'll bet we will have "annual" inspections before long. Can't believe they would take their lives & others on the road & put them at risk!!!!  Bad B/joints, tie rod ends, brakes & tires were on the top of the list, body & glass were next, we won't go into the trailers. [Pretty Bad]

There sure are some real winners out on the roads alright. Some with no insurance and license sticker 6 years expired. We already have annual inspections on some stuff, my trailer and tow vehicle for example.

We don't need inspections here! keep them in Ontario! When we see there feet hanging below the floor boards we politely ask them to park the car and they do. Everybody is safe!

Dave, yep, there doing that here as well, they seem to show up just when the cruise or show is over, & start pulling the cars over as you leave the show area. It's just like "catchin fish in a barrel" most of the tickets are "nit pickin" things, bulbs, cracked lense's etc. if they can't find anything else. One ticket I do agree with is an "all out" hot rod with "Historic plates" & any MAJOR safety issues. The plate "thing" hurts the hobby as the cars that qualify will likely lose them as the Gov. will discontinue the use with all the "abuse" the hot rodders are doing, you tell me if a "23" model T came with a "Chevy V8" Turbo 400 trans. & huge tires out back, as for safety, if it's not up to the HTA [Hwy Traffic Act ] then you "got problems!! How do some of these cars get passed the only Certification when they 1st go for their plates, holes in the floor & fire walls no emm brake etc. [Rat Rods & project cars] This why I said in other thread, Ontario will get annual inspection if people don't smarten up & keep their vehicles in shape, not only daily drivers but the "TOYS" as well!  My 64 has passed the NHRA 27 pt. inspection for the last 5 yrs running, right down to the neutral safety switch, Emm. Brake & to having a fire ext. I wouldn't think of driving it if it was not up to "SNUFF"

Some areas of Ontario are worse than others. I know London area police have prowled over some car shows.

The problem here with the trailers is the lack of annual safety for a house trailer or camper. I have to get my car trailer inspected and stickered annual as well as the tow vehicle.

 If I were hauling a 1969 travel trailer I don't need either.

The guys here in Sask are pretty good going after the ones that need to be pulled. If you hate them from afar, maybe try being on their side of the vest, I bet it would be interesting. Here, as long as the car is pre 1958 it can be modified post 1958 and atleast 30yrs old it has to be close to stock. What I can't stand is the position the news people take on repairing and reselling Total loss vehicles. They paint a bad picture for all of us either fixing or restoring vehicles and doing high caliber work

Brad, I agree 100 o/o I have been holding off on getting my car trailer & p/up in that situation, I'm border line on weight but I can haul a 35' house trailer that would weigh more than the car trailer & car on it, & not have to have either one "stickered"  Doesn't make sense to me???? Also if I pulled car trailer with a station wagon or car no restricksions ????

I remember last fall at the Barrie flea market they were pulling trailors over for inspection and they pulled quite a few dealer plates. I have to agree with the inspection as some people have no regard for the safety of themselves so obviously they do not care about other people. Over the years I have seen many unsafe trailors at Barrie and even more unsafe loaded trailors. We inspected the cargo trailor we use for the trip and had to tighten the wheel bearings a little and grease them and fix one light bulb. One hours worth of time is well worth it for safety porpuses.

As far as ebrake cables and ebrakes go if the car has a standard transmission they should have them. Auotmatics do not need them as shifting into park will lock up the truck and the style of the ebrake system will not stop the truck under load anyway. Our own daily driver is a 2000 Silverado with rear disc brakes. I have had to replace the rear brakes so many times from corrosion that I removed the ebrake pads completely and I am running without them. If and when I sell the truck I will reinstall them for the safety and notify the owner of the rear disc brake problam before he buys it. This design is for rust free areas of Norh America only.

put my 2001 Yukon up for sale and had to replace every thing in the back. They should give you the option of disc or drum for the back.
