Help with my straight six!!!

Hi chaps.
I have a 56 Laurentian over here in England (see welcome aboard section for pics) and it has its original straight six engine. I now wish to overhaul this, and need a bit of help. I believe this engine to be a 261, is this correct?? If so, its unusal over here and i may need to track bits down thur this web site. Im going to need such things as big end and main bearing shells. Anybody got some???
                                              Thanks TIM...

Tim, I am going to email you an article about the 261. Basically it is very similar to the common 235 Chevrolet 6, however the head gasket is different and a few other bits (like rod bearings) are different, as described in the article. You can do eBay and/or internet searches for "261 Chevy" and find bearings, gaskets, etc. If you have a major auto parts store in England (like NAPA here) they should be able to find a 261 rebuild kit for you. Have them look under the heavy (not pickup) truck motors for 261.

Cheers Dave, thanks for that info, and good to hear from you again. I have looked on Ebay.UK but nothing on there for Pontiac 261. I will check out the Chevy version and see what comes up. Not that many people into the six bangers over here, its all V8s...........Poor show!!

Hi people, im back.
Due to illness ive not been able to do much on my Ponty, but now im hopping to get back to it. I have taken out the big end shell bearings and found them to be not to bad, but i want to change them anyhow. I cannot see any markings on them to indicate them being oversized. The only numbers on them are GMMA 8587 115B6. Im not having much luck finding out any info about this engine over hear (England). Hoping somebody on here can help me out.
Thanks TIM...
