RE: 58 Buick Special $800 in Ont

I'm a Buick guy too (1939) and you gotta do what you need to do to drive it!  It will get more attention than a parade float i know that for sure.  Love that 4 door hartop styling!

I suppose it could be done ... there's a little more reason to do it here than there would be to add it to any car at all, but it would take the same amount of effort.
I guess I'm not sure what I would be gaining, except with the few Buick knowledgables who might be present as it was being started. Would you not have to handle the key to turn the ignition "on" anyway?
Right now I'm debating the vacuum wipers -- planning to go to electric motor in line with the safety and driveability conversation ... but do I buy a manufactured unit or make up my own?
Cheers. Adrian

If that car was a 2dr hardtop, I would have jumped on it. Its nice to see someone doing something with it.

I ended up picking up a 57' Plymouth Savoy instead after selling my rusty pathfinder.

I'll call you when it's time to polish!
Laugh, but I've actually collected 50s chrome drawer knobs and other stylish hardware over the years (along with percolators and the odd vacuum cleaner) -- Can't promise they would end up any nearer a car than as decoration in the garage, but some of the trim plates that go behind the knobs would look great along a quarter panel -- like Strato Chief stars.

I collect old hardware also.
I bought out a hardware store that was closed down in the late seventies full of '50's & 60's stuff. It cost me a lot of sweat  to move it from ON. to PEI. Heavy stuff!

Wicked! Looks very familiar. Funny how perceptions change ... I hadn't seen one of these for ?years and now that I have one they show up steadily.
Anybody got any knowledge of colour codes? My firewall plate says "CC-1" ... my understanding is that the first letter should be the upper body colour (C=Glacier White) and the second should be the lower body colour (C-Glacier White) ... but the add-on format of the "-1" is a bit of a mystery: the colour "1" is Green Mist -- could it be that the two-tone was an accessory "added" to an all-white car? Anybody know this stuff? Other than this upper/lower code, I haven't seen anything in advertising or brochures about 58s coming from the factory in two-tone; though modern pictures of cars are out there. Could it have been a dealer addition?

I'm gonna let my welder know about this -- he's already gone through it once! ...Maybe he could do a "gooder" job on the second one with all the experience of the first.
I would highly recommend this kind of "updating" to anyone, after having driven mine around a bit. Handles beautifully -- no sway in the corners.

Here's my tag. It has no accessories listed, but I have several, so I don't know how far to trust it.

Nice job of getting that old girl back on the road and for putting out some good ideas.

I love the '58 Buck wagons and regrettably sold my '58 Century convertible (went to Sweden) and a rusty Limited 4 door parts car a couple years ago. No parts left, but I do have a lot of '58 Buick literature - shop manuals, parts books - both Cdn and US.

Let me know if you need anything and I'll see if I can help.

Thanks, DaveJ.
I'm sure I'll need to know something, sometime, as I get into it.
What are your suggestions on winter storage preparations? The car is in an unheated modern barn/garage over plastic sheeting on concrete. I went with cedar-flavoured mothballs and Bounce dryer sheets inside. I didn't fog it, but I put a little steel wool in the tailpipes as I heard it keeps critters out. I closed the windows to keep the mothball miasma in, but I wondered about condensation ??? Battery is out, conditioner in gas tank. Am I off track or missing anything?
