Straw Poll

Alright fellas...

I haven't quite lost my job but I've been busted down to part-time, which usually marks the beginning of the end.  Means it's time to cut personal expenses.  So I have to know:  If you could only have one and not both which would it be?

Would you keep the smokes or the booze?

P.S. Wish I could frame this in poll format like gun guy from south of the border.  If you're there (and I hope you went with the Colt?!!!!???) how did you do that?

If you give up the smokes, the booze will taste even better (in moderation, of course).

Of course in moderation.  I live in Ontario.  If the Preem has his way he'll reintroduce Prohibition...in which case I'll make gin in my garage and get rich.

When you start a new topic, there is an option "attach poll" down by the "attach image" box. I'd vote for giving up smokes.

Yes.  It's easy if you're not a smoker.  Those of us who are have solved many of the world's greatest problems over a deck of smokes AND a fifth of scotch.  That's what makes this so terribly difficult.  Thanks for your input.  And I like beer too!

I was a two pack a day smoker and gave them up to buy my 455 ....that was 15 years ago. I also cut down on my drinking.  When you put that money away it sure adds up. Now if I could only stay away from Tim Hortons nono

I would say the big expense would be the smokes. Are you a pack or more a day smoker ? Whats a pack of smokes cost  around $10 bucks (just a guess on my part) Times that by 30 , and thats 300 bucks a month. Two packs a day 600 bucks. But you may drink more just trying to quit. Tuff choice.biggrin

The smoking WILL kill you

the booze probably won't as quick

IF you can stop smoking  the booze will be easy

I gave up both, and over compensated with sex...

Now I'm the opposite. I gave up drinking back in '97 as it just cost me too much in my lifetime. Alcohol USED to be a problem. But then it wasn't long and I made enough money!
It wasn't all money-oriented that COST me though; too many other things to list and I just woke up September 7th of 1997 and said "THAT'S IT! I'M DONE MAN!" and haven't touched it since! Now, if I could only get past this stupid cigarette habit I'd be the happiest guy on the planet I tell ya! I wont' even tell you folks HOW MANY TIMES I'VE TRIED TO QUIT AND FAILED! Ridiculous!
So I guess my answer would have to be, just buy a 12 pack and a couple of packs of chokesticks and yer still in the game! LOL! I have to shake my head at how the "Reptilian Kitten Eater" is coming down like a ton of bricks on smokers given alcohol can and DOES cause a way more problems in life; impaired driving, spousal abuse; just AS MANY health problems as any cigarettes
for sure and the list could go on. Neither cigarettes OR booze are REALLY any good for anything, but it all depends on what era yer raised in too! Older people were taught smoking and drinking meant you were REALLY CLASSY!!! My how the times change.

I'll think on that while I work on the truck.  Meantime..alternate sources of income?
Grass might be better than bootlegging but the smell and the draw on the hydro grid.  Naw.  Better not.

That's easy.  I gave Timmie's up 15 years ago along with KFC aka Rat In a Box.  I also embraced whole grains  (okay that's a lie) and stick to natural stuff.  Butter's better than margerine and full strength Coke is better than Diet (makes formaldehyde in the gut..stay away).

One deck per day at $11.25.  750 ml  Johnnie Black $45  1 per week.

I have cut down to 2 vices at any given moment in time.
I suppose I could cut down to one at a time if I had to.
I think I could quit smoking while having a drink, like in a bar.
I think I could quit drinking while smoking. like at breakfast.
