Yes, agree 100%.

I agree also.  I'm not sure what they are trying to accomplish by not including a price in their ad, yet I see it every day.

FWIW, I just emailed the owner and he replied with:

"Looking for $8800 obo at this point."

Looks like a nice car, but definitely too high on the price!

Thanks MC for putting us out of our misery and finding out the price.

My guess is dad is too old to drive it and it has a lot of sentimental value, factor in non car guys in the family, and hence the price.

Neat car though, like the colour combination.

Glad to help! smile I couldn't bear to watch all the misery any longer!  biggrin

Does look like a nice car, and I daresay that if you compare what you get on the used car market these days for a 4 cyl FWD boremobile, $8800 doesn't seem so bad after all for a mint vintage Poncho.  But then, it is what the market will bear, and that car is not for everyone, and not necessarily a practical daily driver!

Wouldn't an up to date appraisal by an accredited person handed off to your insurance company give you the ability to drive it with regular (non historic) plates as a daily driver.

Lots of people out west in Canada drive older cars as daily drivers. Something could be worked out.

I remember being at Santa's Village in Bracebridge not too long ago and in the parking lot was a mid '70s Dart Sport in nice but daily driver condition. Depends how thick a skin you have for parking older cars and walking away from them. I can do that with my '91 Miata, not a really old car, but can't with the Stude or the Gremmie.

I'm the exact opposite. I park the old Pontiac anywhere, It's my Cadillacs that are our daily drivers that worry me most, especially the Fleetwood. I am actually thinking of retiring it from active service.

The last time I asked my insurance company, they indicated that they would insure an old car but said that the appraisal would have no meaning to them.  They suggested that I seek out collector insurance.

I didn't ask any further questions as I was just feeling them out, but I took it that they would insure the vehicle to be driven occasionally but would likely value it as an "old car" for like, $500 or so if it happened to be wrecked.

However, it seems that on automotive boards all over the internet I'm reading of people who daily drive their old cars, so either they are taking a chance or they've found a good solution to the insurance dilemma.

FWIW, that '76 looks too nice for me to use as a daily driver as I have suffered parking lot damage, vandalism and theft to several cars over the years.  As a result I am very protective of any car I drive, being a hobby car (when I've had one) or not with the exception of the well-seasoned and dinged-up '98 Accord that sees 99% of my parking lot duty - my sacrificial car, so to speak.
