Hey, folks, I just found out that GM tags all their "Crate Engines" as NOT FOR ROAD USE -OFF ROAD ONLY!!! Anybody know if this is to cover their A$$ for emission's & do the speed shops ie. Performance Improvements, Karbelt etc. tag their engines as well!! I would imagine Ford & Chrysler do the same, anyone used a crate engine yet?? Found this out yesterday at a shop that does alot of hot rod work, showed me the tag of a GM 350 cu.in 330 hp crate engine he was installing in a street rod. Maybe this is another thing the MOE is stopping cars for, as well as all the other "infractions" they seem to be able to find!!!

Don't know where that comes from but in the performance catalogs the GM performance crate engines have a 2yr 80000km parts and labour warranty even if you install it yourself, as long as you have the proper paper work.
Most of them say "Designed for pre-76 street vehicles or any off-road vehicle (thence the emmission criteria). Not intended for Marine use". I have sold many perormance crate engines and when warranty issues come up, even valve cover gaskets it's no issue of course except Marine.
Go Get a performance parts book # 19244710 and check it out for yourself.
Isn't the GM service replacement engine a crate engine? 350 Targetmaster for cars and a Vortec 383 for trucks. These come with warranty as well don't they ?

I have a crate engine in the Beaumont, 1992 LS6 454. It was giving me grief, my engine rebuilder said that crate engines are not as good as factory installed engines.
