A few of my toys: Eldon racetrack with Ferraris (this was one of mine as a kid)
'50s Marx train set (purchased; old store stock)
And "As Seen On TV" Johnny Toymaker! (with this you can mould/bake your own Jaguars ... unopened, old store stock). From the same makers of the banned/dangerous Johnny Seven rifle, Topper.

That's pretty cool stuff. My first Eldon had stiok cars, a yellow Impala, a Blue Catalina, a white T-Bird and a red Plymouth. I got a lot of different cars added over the years too.
I had a couple more sets that I burnt with lighter fluid. They contained a '65 Mustang, '65 Corvette, and other classics. The Ferrari set (the earliest set of all) survived because I didn't like the cars as much, and it was a lot smaller track set-up!

The funny thing is we used lighter fluid too, the yellow can with blue spout, to do burn outs as well. I thought I was leading edge and here you were doing it too...LOL!
I used to get $10 for my birthday when I was a kid starting at age 5. I had one toy in mind. A Corgi semi truck! These were awesome as they had moving parts and real rubber tires. I still remember the one I got on my 5th birthday. It was a Mack Semi with an Esso tanker trailer. I am slowly collecting Mint-in-Box examples when I find a deal on Ebay. I have two of the ones I had so far:
I still have some surviving models from when I was a kid. Most are Jo Han. They had the coolest models!
I used to have a room full of Matchbox die case with several rare variations. I sold it all to buy a 58 Plymouth. Someday I'd like to get some of the early "regular wheel" models mint-in-box again.

For me it's Estes Model Rockets. Launched some real oldies recently. The little guy is 37 years old and came through without a scratch. Just need powder charges and a car battery. Good times. And the dinky's from a friend with a warped sense of humour.

Estes rockets are cool! I haven't launched one since about grade 8. My son and I have contemplated buying one however we don't have a good track record for flying things lasting longer than about a day. The only exception is the Air Rage RC plane I picked up at The Source for 5 bucks. The staff tried to fly it and crashed it. I bought it as is and fixed it. We are on our second summer with it. Action video:
THATS COOL ALL I PICK UP IS TONKA TRUCKS MY GRAND KIDS COME OVER TO MY HOUSE AND THATS ALL THEY PLAY WITH IS TONKA TOYS. BOY WERE THEY MAD WHEN I PAVED MY DRIVEWAY.
This shows most of the track I set up when I get the urge in the winter. There is more track but this is a nice combo of road course and drag strip.
Not that's the kind of basement I remember growing up as a kid. A slot race track and a hockey net. Pure Canadiana Baby!!!!

Yup. There's a very good reason the basement isn't neatly drywalled and painted. Best advice we ever got when we built our house was "if you're going to have kids, don't finish your basement until they move out!"
Those race cars have been known to "hit the wall in the turn" and it has a different meaning than in NASCAR!

I had a Marx train like that, and a similar race car set except it had 62 Chevrolet, Pontiac and Ford, plus a 65 Dodge Coronet. Unknown to me my brother tossed it in the trash in the mid 70s when he decided to clean up. Same with all the car models.
