I am advertsing this on behalf of a relative - so some of the following needs to be confirmed:

This is a full size pontiac laurentian wagon - we have yet to figure out if it is a 1975 or 1976 - the original owner passed away some time ago and this car has been sitting in the garage for over 20 years!
please note that the car is currently located in cobourg - i don't have the exact address so i have posted it under torotno

The laurentian is a canadian only model - similar to the catalina model sold in the US. this model would be pretty rare - canadian only model and a wagon - not many of these have likely survived.

This wagon has the amazing "clamshell" tailgate that drops down and is hidden under the rear floor. this one doesn't have the 3rd row of seats, but has a storage area under the floor. this would be a great car for a tailgate party!

comes with the pontiac 400 cubic inch V8, auto trans, ps, pb. etc. - mileage on the car is over 90,000 miles, but this needs to be confirmed.

right now, the car has flat tires, the gas tank hasn't been filled in 20 years, and these appears to be rust on the bottom of the rear quarter panels - and hasn't been run in ages - it needs someone who knows how to bring it back to life! might also be useful for parts for restoring other pontiacs (trans-am, grand prix, lemans) that used the 400 cubic inch engine and trans.

so, email me if you have any interest in this beasty! $2500 or best offer

Nice. Those wheel discs first were used in 1975. If we had a shot of the grille we could tell what year it is. On the 400, I always thought that a Laurentian would get the 400 sbc as it's largest engine, 350 sbc would have been standard wouldn't it?

That's what I thought. What was the last year for the SBC 400?

We have talked about this before. The Canadian name plates got 400 Chevy. Here's what CdnGMFan says:

I first saw that brochure in the fall of 1975 when a friend of my father's drove over to our house in Ancaster from Oshawa in his brand new 1976 Laurentian Safari 3-seat wagon. It was light blue metallic with full wheel covers. luggage rack and bodyside moldings. Under the hood was definitely a brand new orange Chevy 400 4-barrel. A few months later I got my own copy of that brochure from Douglas Pontiac-Buick-Cadillac-GMC in Hamilton (later it became Hogan).

I had a friend whose parents owned a 1975 Laurentian Safari from new. We ended up wringing a lot out of that car. It had an orange Chevy 400 4-barrel and it went faster than that heavy car witha smog motor had any right to. Many smokey burnouts, a few startled Corvette drivers, driving through cornfeilds at 70 mph... I even personally lost my licence in that car (I was in high school and slightly wild). I could tell you a lot more stories about that car. It was really tough!

Notice that the Parisiene Brougham, Laurentian and Laurentian Safari top out at the 400 4-barrel. All engines in those Oshawa-built cars were orange Chevy V8s. On the other hand Catalinas and Bonnevilles came exclusively with blue block Pontiac power, being built in a U.S. plant. I remember it distinctly when these cars were new.

The Parisienne Brougham of 75 - 76 was a unique pairing of Bonneville rectangular headlights and Catalina grille for a look that wasn't offered in the U.S. together. Interior for the Parisiene Brougham was straight from the Chevy Impala but witha Pontiac dash, steering column and wheel. The Laurentian used a Chevy Bel Air interior, the Bel Air itself being dropped in the U.S after 1975 but carrying on through 1981 in Canada.

My own '75 Laurentian Wagon was a 400 SBC. Owned it '78-79, it had been previously used by a security company whose owner was into motorsport and knew I was looking for a tow vehicle, and it was great at towing. 70,000 miles on the clock when I bought it, the first big car I had driven with radial tires and disc brakes. A ton better handling car than the car it replaced, a '68 Plymouth Sport Satellite. Mine had the same colour beige interior and had been repainted white over the original very nice copper colour that Pontiac had that year. A great car, especially in the snow. It had the exact same wheel covers and the reflectors and rub bars on the clam-shell back door. I remember learning pretty fast that if you wound the power back window up too high it would get stuck in the roof.

Well that confirms it, two first hand accounts and one by an owner. 400 small block torque monster it is.

It says it has been in storage for 20 years Fred. I don't imagine you were checking out the station wagons at that age.

I like it!  Always thought that clamshell tailgate was one of the coolest things!

Not many of these left.  Hopefully somebody will save it!
