Is this odd?

With the recent talk about 400s, (the 75 wagon in the for sale section) I remembered this one out back, it is unusual? It's a Parisienne with an american 400 two bbl carb.

I don't think so. It's a '74 right. In some cases Parisiennes were getting Pontiac engines in 71 to 74, even 455's. Canadian Wagons on the other hand got the 400 small block just like Chevrolet wagons did.

The interesting thing about that data tag is that it does not say GM Canada anywhere, wonder if Parisiennes were made state side in 74??

This is what I can contribute on this one. I have the 1974 Pontiac  FSM supplement for 350 & 400 orange engines published by GM Canada, See below:

FSM supp 74.jpg

Inside the cover is this statement:

FSM Supp 74 2.jpg

It says, the supplement covers, Domestic Laurentian, Parisienne Brougham, Catalina, LeMans, LeMans Sport and Luxury LeMans 350 & 400 V8 Orange Engines.

It also says that it covers overhaul procedures for the 350 2 and 4 barrel engine used on domestic A and B series and the 400 4bbl used on "B" wagons.

Translation: 350 Chevy used in B body cars, 400 and 455 Pontiac used in B body cars. 400 Chevy used in wagons.

I find it interesting that with all the interchangability across all the GM lines, Buick being the least compatible of them all, Pontiac was dropped and Buick survived. Is it because the consumer(especially Canadians) consider a Pontiac merely an upscale Chevy and prefer a totally different upscale model?

I suspect politics and mismanagement are the reason. If you look at Pontiac at it's death they were selling a rebadged Vauxhall a rebadged Toyota, a rebadged Holden, a rebadged Colbalt a rebadged Eqinox etc....Some bozo in the Marketing dept. decided to kill two of the most famous nameplates Bonneville and Grand Prix a few years ago, Firebird was allowed to die off too. In the end what was Pontiac?

Washigton and Management came up with an idea to thin out the brands and killing Pontiac was a very easy decision imo.

I understood that the only reason Buick was saved was because of its huge sales numbers in china, GM had to cut one more brand according to the "experts" so Pontiac was the next up the list. Its a shame since the G8 was an awesome car.... I'll bet it will be a big collector item in 20 years!

..but the G8 isn't even a Pontiac, pretty soon it will be sold as a Chevy for police use, a Holden with badges to suit market needs.
