This is the guy who died a couple of weeks ago. I admit to being a very sad guy that night when he died.

I love pheasants! When I was a kid growing up here we had a male live here for about 3 years but no mate, so eventually no more pheasants. I have often thought of buying some to keep here. We have about 30-35 acres of bushland as well as a coulee running through our property.

I tried 7 wild turkey chicks a few years ago. I let them out when they were half grown and they only stayed a day or two, then took off 2 miles east to the Red River. Too bad, I thought it would be fun to have them around. My dad was president of the Manitoba Wildlife Federation in the early 60's. He was one of a group of I think 3 or 4 guys who introduced turkeys to Manitoba. My dad is long gone but I thought it would be so cool to have them running around on the very acreage he lived almost his whole life on.

Carl, we have a rehabilitation center for hawks and owls in the south Okanagan. They've seen all kinds of injuries, and successfully cared for and released many over the years. He might have had a chance at a place like that.

I never get enough of these guys when we go to the lake. This guy chewed right through the mesh on the chair to get his seeds!

I called our rehab place here and I was surprised how un-interested they were in helping. Nobody around there until 9 the next morning. I was sure he wouldn't make the night and he only made it a couple of hours.

Years ago I caught a snowy owl with a broken wing but I've found that if you can catch them they are usually too far gone to save.

I caught this "friendly" girl trying to lay eggs by the deck at the lake one evening. I showed the kids why they are called snapping turtles! She sure clamped down on a stick I held in front of her.

I really wanted to terminate her because we can't have them around the dock where we swim but I just couldn't do it. We put her in the truck box, drove about 2 miles and released her near a highway with a ditch full of water.

This was really cool. We were fishing around my cousin's island (right where I caught that trout) and saw this young bald eagle. He let me get pretty close and then he flew but couldn't make it the 1/4 mile to the next island and landed in the water. I was really scared because I knew he wouldn't be able to take off out of the water. I knew he'd tear me to shreds if I tried to pick him out of the water. We slowly followed him as he paddled back to his roost. I was SO relieved when he made it back to shore.

Pretty distant shot but this wolf ran past me when I was out on the ice road in Feb. By coincidence, he only about 500 feet south of where the eagle swam and 500 feet west of where I got the trout! Great area!!!
