No turtles?  Wow, we see lots of painted and the odd snapping like this one.

I've been told there are turtles down southern alberta way, but nothing up in central, I guess it gets to cold here and the frost line is deeper so they wouldn't survive hibernation

Some kind of moth caterpillar, can't remember what kind though.  I remember all the tent caterpillars down in ontario as well, big nests of them in trees

I've had a bear down around the hazelnut trees, feasting on the nuts a couple of times in the last week. No photos though, as it's at night, and I wasn't going down there. It's funny to hear him cracking nut after nut for an hour at a time.

Yeah, maybe that's one picture best left undone!

In 50 plus years here we've only ever had one bear sighting close by (mile away). It was a mom and 3 cubs.

Our toddler son wasn't allowed to play outside alone for a while when that happened.

What a great thread.

Here's one:

Back in the summer I directed a funeral in Mount Pleasant Cemetery in Toronto.  The deceased was an elderly lady, much loved, active, outdoorsy.  The Anglican priest was about to lead the Our Father when suddenly a six point white tail rose up from behind a nearby upright granite monument.  We all froze.  Gets better: the deer walked right up to us and stood silently for about 10 seconds before sprinting away.  We all took with us our own thoughts on what that moment meant.  I'm told by the grounds keepers that there's a small group of about 8 and that they can be seen in Section 10 of the cemetery early in the morning.  I wish I had a snap but cracking out the Blackberry at the lady's funeral wouldn't have been appropriate.

Here's another:

My son and a friend in Florida this summer.  His girlfriend caught the beast.

I don't have a lot of wildlife photos, however here are a couple of pics of the miniature horses a friend of mine breeds:

Apr2009 024.jpg

Apr2009 028.jpg

There's a hawk that hangs around our place. A few times he's nailed our window trying to catch the birds at our feeder. It's hard to get a decent shot as he usually flies away. I got this one from a distance

I'm the first to admit that I love  to fish, however I'm terrible at it. One day I'll visit one of you experts and get some real pointers. My son and  I have a standing joke in that whenever we go fishing we get nibbles and nothing else. This summer my wife came a long and said "Maybe you have too big of a hook". Ya right I thought but just to prove her wrong I attached a little wee hook...
This is what happened

It's a fact that more people are injured by Elk in the national parks, than all the other animals combined!
