Bel Air 2-door coupes were Canada-only from 1970 through 1981. That one appears to be Sandalwood & Tuxedo Black. The dash supposedly isn't cracked, which is very unusual for those 1971 - 1976 Big Chevrolets. Dad had a 1974 model and the dash was replaced by 1976.  Six cylinder power is also unusual, although I remember a bunch of 1972 Chevrolets with sixes over the years. I have seen exactly ONE 1973 Big Chevy with a six back in the mid-1970s. The V8s had either a single RH exhaust pipe or occasionally duals, but the sixes had a single LH exhaust pipe.

Those cars were heavy; a six would be pretty taxed by the mass. You could always get a big block in them but overwhelmingly people went for small blocks. In that generation the 400 became the base engine in the Caprice series, that is until after the oil embargo in October 1973 made the thirsty 1974 models get a rework for 1975. The 350 reverted to being standard on the Caprice.A friends dad would traditionally buy 6 cylinder Biscaynes, his last six-cylinder at the time being a 1967 model with Z04 H.D. chassis equipment (F40 suspension, 12-bolt rear, front stabilizer bar) plus Positraction (he always specified that). In 1973 he decided that he want to tow a camper so he decided to make sure it was well equipped. He ordered a 1973 Biscayne (now a Canada-only series) with an LS4 454, TH400, trailering 3.42:1 axle, large front & rear stabilizer bars, super-strong brakes, Comfortron air conditioning, plus blackwalls & small hubcaps. It was delivered with a 140 mph speedo plus bumper guards & rub strips. It was very much like the black & white OPP cruisers I saw that year. It deliver 10 mpg around town, on the open road, towing a trailer I modified a Bel Air picture from the brochure into an exact rendering of my friends fathers car. Take a look:

Iv'e got a 72 Belair 2 door that I picked up this spring for parts to use on my 71 Impala Custom.  The 71 is a original Big Block ca. When I first got it I thought it was a impala.  It is super straight and mostly rust free and I had intentions of cutting it up for the panels that the 71 needed.  After I got it home I realized it was a Belair and checking the VIN I found that it was a 350/300 hp 4 bbl car. I couldn't bring myself to hacking it up after that.  Because I got this thing from the bushes after sitting for 30 years I was truley amazed how little damage occurred to it over the last 30 years. It was even still wearing the Bias ply tires that were put on it before being parked and they were still holding air.  The drivetrain had been removed sometime ago but I have a 454/400 combo that I will be putting in to it.  here are some pics of both cars.

Nice save!  It would be cool to see more pics as the project comes along!

I emailed the seller, and this was his response:

"Hi there
I ask 12,000.00 negociable. This car was never driven during the winter  and in the rain. Was never left outside. Always park in the garage. Interior of car and trunk is like new. Mileage on vehicle 57,000 miles. I have the car since 5 years and made 1500 miles since  I have it. Used to belong to my aunt. I also have original bill of sale of vehicle when it was purchase new. Also have other receipe of what was done on vehicle since 1971. I have an evaluation which was made on it 5 years ago by a proffesional evaluator of antique vehicle and I have the evaluation result on hand. Was evaluated at the time at 10,000.00. He also told me that it normally double after 40 years old. So the asking price is not exagerated but is negociable."

...Sounds like it is a really nice original vehicle, but unfortunately a little overpriced for what I'd be willing to spend on a 6 cyl full size.  Probably never see another one like it, though.

Wouldn't it be sweet at  6500.00 and room for a big block or LS series motor?

If you like the biggest Bel Air in the world

I had a 72 Impala Custom with a 402/400 in it back in 78/79. I pulled the engine and went through it with some really good parts at that time. It was taken to the local drag strip and with a set of cheater slicks I was able to pull 14.20 at 105 MPH in the quarter. Not to bad for a FAMILY car with AC/Tilt/Cruise. I was always hooked on these big cars. There were the ultimate sleeper. Loved the look of guys driving the period Muscle cars when the old guys car left them behind.

The Caprice in the US makes me salvate uncontrolably.

OMG! That is the same car! The picture you posted of the car was taken at

the home of the late  Linus Howe on Montgomery Drive in Ancaster Heights where I spent the first 9 years of my life. I have been friends with his son Scott since about 1967. Wait, you have a 2+2... Scott mentioned to me decades ago about a guy he knew with a 1970 Canadian Pontiac with the 454 badges on the fenders...

Oh those canoe hook on the fenders, yech! Dad had a similar arrangement on all his Biscaynes over the years as well.

Here is a pic of my 74 Caprice 454 I had back in the 80's. Always reminded me of the car from the Vacation movies. Used to call it the Wally World car. Just a pig on gas.
