RE: One example of a car that shouldn't be written off permanently

"Hopefully the day doesn't come when we end up selling our cars cheap to someone in another country that has more lenient laws regarding older cars. "

IF that day comes,  i guess i will be moving!

Nope, that car has "irrepairable" stamped on the paperwork and that extends to wherever the car goes, BC, California, Florida, wherever. They are making sure that nothing short of something illegal would allow that car back on the road.

That Firebird could have 25,000 original kilometers, never seen salt and still be junk only, never to be street legal again.

The only positive side I see out of this is a great selection of bodies for guys building race cars.

So, has this law gone into effect already?

why do these 2 say they are irreparable?

Yup, full speed ahead, 94 and down is no longer repairable, even if it's a hail claim I think.

On 94 and older the original owner still has the option to by it back and fix it, but once it goes to auction it's irreparable.

Yes, only the owner can do it.

One of my son's classmates got hit yesterday in his 89 Caprice and it will be a writeoff. Nice little old lady car, sold new here, in nice shape.

Not bad damage and I like those B body cars but it's gone....

I wonder what's under the Vette's hood?
Another question; do you think that some people will start to do some VIN swapping? evileye.gif

My 16 year old son picked up on the VIN swapping thing. First thing he said was "Someone will buy a wreck and put the VIN on the nice car...."

Here is a nice 94 Mustang ( 120 km) with no visible damage. What a waste !

Here is a 72 Nova with 68,000 miles that has been determined to be irrepairable by our provincial run insurance company.

What a waste.... however this would be a great parts car  for someone.

I saw that one too Howard. Seems crazy.

For someone wanting to drive an old car and it doesn't have to have 2 doors, that would have been perfect. Looks like it would have made a great driver.
