Our modern day collectables?

So Aunt Edna has passed away and left you $25,000 in her will. Shook up over the loss/gain, your spouse says "why don't you go out and get yourself something?" Good enough for me! Looking at what to drive to what's left of a show and shine 15-20 years from now, here's my top ten list of possible collectables that may or may not turn heads in the year 2030:

10. Buick Reatta
9. Cadillac Elante
8. Chrysler Crossfire
7. Mustang Bullett Edition
6. Dodge Daytona Short Box regular cab P/U (Whoops-got one already!)
6(a). 1996 Chev Impala SS
5. 2006 Pontiac GTO
4. 1992 Corvette ZR1
3. Pontiac G8 V8
2. Cadillac CTS-V
1. Pontiac Solstice

What's your choice? My choices 9 and 10 will leave you enough cash left over to buy that jet tub you've always wanted and in the future will create a memory of begining of GM's temporary downfall.LOL. Chances are you won't be able to cash any of these vehicles in to retire in those times, but some will dredge up memories like when Obama as President, when gas was only $1.00 a litre or available and a jerk Military leader was gang-raped in prison (just wishful thinking).

I have been looking for a red Reatta for a long time, that is number one choice. A Cadillac Allante with a 300 HP Northstar would be insane too, can't imagine how fast they are, just know that my Deville is scary fast so an Allante must be terrifiying.

Always wanted a Solstice but my wife says we can't carry any grandchildren in that one, but I still want one or a G6 convertible. Like your selections.

A neighbor picked up a black one from Vancouver Island last fall.  Nice car.  There's another fella a few blocks away with a red one.  If I ever get the chance, I'll ask him if it's in his long term sights...

From that list? I would hold out for the GTO, not many around and lots of horses under the hood.

Wowyawn!  Those last pictures have hit home. Great job. Now to figure out how to print that?

For some reason I thought about this list all week.  I guess a deep down fear of seeing anything pre-199? go to the crusher. Also, some of these cars are really affordable. So realistically, it's almost worth a gamble......if I only had the room.

So make your own list. And even think of something off-shore. I'd like to squeeze a
Bentley Turbo R on my list somewhere.

My #6. It's been a great truck. Not many Daytona short box, regular cab units out there. My series number is #02566 embossed on the dash.

Ray the 4.5 is a better choice in the Allante' Why? THe 93 North*'s are problem engines, poor metallurgy, etc. The 4.5 roller cam Allante' only engines are super dependable and almost as fast stock. I can testify as after having 3 of them they are awesome cars and very undervalued in the current market.
Allante' is still the most expensive car GM has ever built, but they never had a power top, which they offered on a frigin' Cavalier at the same time!

My choices from the past 25 years, a bit ecclectic and odd, but...

1990-1992 ZR1 Vette
2002 WS6 Trans Am
1987 Grand National
1992 Viper-not the best maybe, but it was the first
1989 Pontiac Firebird Formula N10/MM5/GM3-just found out about these, very rare.
1986 Dodge Omni GLH-S-yeah it's a box but so what
1991 Syclone/Typhoon
1996 Impala SS
2003 Mercury Marauder-these were built locally
and to put a foreign car in here, even though it's not exotic or really desireable, 1987 Toyota Celica GT/GTS...i had one and had a lot of fun with that car, 5spd a must

Wow, I haven't seen a bubble back Pontiac like that in eons!

I saw the Solstice on that list, but the Saturn Sky and especially the Sky Redline will be a lot rarer in the future, mainly because they are not common now.

For my list it's not because I think any of them will be of any value, but because I like them.

In no particular order:

1982-83 Mercury LN7

1982-85 Ford EXP

http://carphotos.cardomain.com/ride_images/2/4449/3461/23621730012_large.jpg

early 90's Geo, Suzuki, Metro... whatever they are all the same, convertible. (I just got one)

http://allencarswell.com/estore/images/1994%20Metro.jpg

1986ish Lincoln LSC (very fast, good on gas, very fast, I have 5 of them from 85-89)

https://i282.photobucket.com/albums/kk275/EXP_LN7_Club/IMG_0155.jpg

Dodge Dakota convertible.

http://static.howstuffworks.com/gif/1989-dodge-dakota-convertible.jpg

1972 Dodge Coronet Custom Topper, used primarily as taxis and Police cars, they are mostly gone due to being driven to death (I have a Police car one that I bought for $1)

[Could not find a single photo online, so I will have to upload mine later.]

Chrysler TC by Maserati

http://www.maserati-alfieri.co.uk/alfieri30/chrysler-01a.jpg

And I bet I will think od  lot more later...

The Plymouth Prowler. The PT Cruiser could some day be a collectible much like old VW bugs are.

Greetings

I gotta be careful as I am a die hard Mopar buff. The Crossfire is a Volkwagen built,  Daimler supplied, Chrysler engined unit that was not marketed all that well. Nice unit but not supported worth a damn, much like the forgotten Merkur XRZ@#.

I have a lightly modded Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8 which may be collectable in the future, hard to tell as they will depreciate for a looooooong time before they ever become valuable.

My 1966 Chrysler 300 convertible has some folks now looking at it and waondering what it is. I get people saying " gee, did Chrysler make a 300 before 1999 ? " It is a classic land barge that may get collectable some day.

My list of future post say '99 MY collectables would also include;

1999 ( was to be an Eagle ) Chrysler 300M
2005 Rumble B ( and Deltas 2005 Daytona)
06 through 10 Dodge/Jeep/300/Viper/Dodge truck/Crossfire SRT4, 6 and 8's
300 Heritage
2008 SRT8 Challengers/Furious Fuscia/Mark10/Hurst/and possibly the unauthorised convertibles.

Well, enough with the dreaming . . .

Regards

you can buy an 04-06 dodge ram srt-10 for around 25000 these days with low miles and guaranteed they are gonna be collectible/desirable in the future....especially since lots of the 9000 built are wrecked now

One thing is for sure, we may have Pontiacs somewhere in our stables here, but as far as owning and/or expertise, Mopar is a stong second, followed by our Ford guys.
