Ontario Tax Grabs - they got me good today !

Well today was the day I decided to transfer the ownership of my newly acquired Oldsmobile. Seeing that November is also my Birthday month I thought it would be good to take care of a couple of my registrations as well.

here's how itr all went:

Oldsmobile 88:

E-test ...........................................................      $35
Safety Certificate .........................................       $65
Used vehicle package ...................................      $20
HST on purchas eprice ..................................    $195
Permit for 13 months....................................       $84
Plates & Ownweship .. ..................................     $20

Total ..............................................................    $419

LeMans GT

Historic plates renewal for 12 months ..................$18

Cadillac Deville

Plate renewal for 12 months .................................$74
Toronto City car tax .............................................. $60
407 fees ................................................................$93

Total......................................................................$227

Fines on Buick which I no longer own.
(I lent this to a friend for 2 years and they
would not complete any of the above
without full payment) .......................................$176

Grand total Tax grab by McQuinty & Miller....... $840

I know I should have paid my 407 fees but hey what about my friend racking up tickets of $176. Still $840 in taxes today cry

The $176 is a good reason why I'll never loan a vehicle to anyone - friend or not.

Another reason is my boss's story of years ago lending his car to a friend who then had a serious at-fault accident with it.  Nobody was killed, but the damage was severe and since his car was at-fault his insurance rates skyrocketed after that.  Of course, no compensation was received by the "friend".

I owned it they drove it. I was told they were unpaid parking tickets, it's only three tickets but the city adds court costs and a lot of other BS. Parking tickets in Toronto are usually $30.

I have an antique plate on my '75 Grand Am. I got the plate in '99, paid $30 for registration and that's it. No cost since then, the plate is for car's with collector or antique insurance, I have collector insurance.

I had to trailer my car home recently, I took the 407 toll highway. They are charging me for the truck and the car, glad they didn't charge for the trailer, I guess.

Ray, phone Rob Ford about the car tax. Maybe this will be the last year you have to pay that one.

Robert, remember your out west, here in Ontario "old" Dalton Mc GOOFY & the gang want to "RAPE" you for every nickel they can get & then some!!! Then the out going Mayor of Toronto has to get his $60 bucks worth as well. Ray too bad you cound't have waited till Mayor elect Ford cut the dam tax off the fees???? If the hot rodders keep putting Antique plates on their cars we can 'kiss" those plates good bye as well!! I heard a few got "pulled" this summer at spot checks, seems a 23 Ford T-Bucket didn;t come with a small block chevy in it!!!! nonono
