Barn finds are real.

I have been a part of several "Barn finds" over the years and it always gets my blood flowing when you find something that just doesn't make sense of being where it is.  Last weekend I was out with a cousin doing some repairs to a bale wagon of his, we were on the look out for some steel piping at a old farm yard site next to his property. I looked over to a old garage that had a very nasty lean on it, I almost snapped my neck turning my head when I spotted something that looked like it had a convertible top.  I checked it out and what of all things is it.

A 1966 Ambassador 990 convertible with buckets and console.  The car has been there for years, but it is straight and complete.  Talk about rare, from what I researched it is 1 of just over 1700 made, and the buckets and console are even rarer.

If that isn't enough, walking around farther and into a wide open old quonset, what was sitting in there was even more than I could believe.

A 1967 Dodge Dart GT Convertible completely untouched, rally wheels and all, 273 and buckets and console. with 72,000 original miles.  It looked like all it needed was a battery to fire up and drive out.  It also has been parked for several decades as it still has its bias ply tires on it.

Needless to say I am in the process of trying to buy one or both of them from the old fellow that has the property.  Wishing myself good luck.

'1967 Dodge Dart GT Convertible, rally wheels , 273..."

One of my all time favorite Mopars. Great size car, and engine!

Those little 273 V8's put out a significant amount of HP per cubic inch.  My father had a 'four door 67 Valiant with the slant 6 that he always kept clean enough that you could eat off the engine.  I always told him he should buy 2 doors.  (Family guy with 4 kids and a dog.  I guess father did know best.)

Awesome find!!!

Reminds me of some neighbor kids (3miles away) in the early 80's, who trashed a 63 split window Corvette that was parked in a shed.  disbelief cry  Not sure who the owner of the car was or the condition before these kids took bats to it.  They totally ruined it.  I was all of about 11 or 12 and it upset me then.

Looking behind houses where Barns are is the way to go!! My 65 Malibu and the 75 Chev Kommando come from the same suburban area in the same road about 100 Yds apart.

There are more to be found!!

I have been in barn construction since 1975 and get into a lot of old barns. I've only found a few old cars, mostly Fords, a 1966 Mustang 289, covered in pigeon droppings, also a 1926 Ford, sank up to the axles into the ground. Also a 50 something Studebaker pickup. Lots of old license plates, oil cans and the like. Never anything too valuable.

The Ambassador is exactly like in the picture.  The only thing that I found interesting about the one I came across is that somebody planted a 352 Ford engine into it.  From the way the wiring under the hood and dash looked, I'm thinkin that it never ran after been put in.  Probably gave up on it???

Ambassador convertibles were lookers and were made only 3 years; 1965 through 1967.

The AMC engines had the distributors out front. If you swapped in a Chevy engine you were also going to have to deal with windsheild wiper motor clearance issues, but with a Ford engine you didn't have that headache to deal with.

Years ago I saw a stunning 1967 Ambassador DPL convertilbe with a factory 343 & Warner T10 4-speed. Dark blue with medium blue bucket seat interior.

My late father used to say the only people who dove AMCs were professors & retired folks. Based on subsequent observation he was absolutely right. Today it is a different story.

Anyway Saskguy, congrats on your cool barn finds!

If your looking to re sell the Ambassador, I'm good friends with an AMC nut that would probably be interested.
