It's a drawing for crying out loud, I enlarged the photo 400% and they look pretty good to me, besides you have no idea what GM gave the artist to draw. That brochure was probably drawn in May or June 1969 for September release.

Ray, I wasn't saying the drawing is a piece of crap.

My point  is maybe at one point GM actually planned the wheel as a 4 slot instead of 5.

Again I enlarged this 400%, because of the angle you can not see 4 slots in any of the drawings, only three so you must be making an assumption that it is a 4 slot wheel when in fact you can't really tell.

Good point. In reality I guess it could actually be a 3 slot wheel. Never thought of it that way.

That's it. I'm writing to Art Fitzpatrick and asking "What were you thinking when you did those centre caps in 1969!"

Just kidding, the quality of the illustrations of these and other Pontiac illustrations, both US and Canadian is fantastic, as good as any auto manufacturer or better. Fitzpatrick was on the top of his game at this point. You still see him advertising his work in the POCI publication "Smoke Signals".

Pontiac was among the last to hold onto this illustrative hand drawn style in its ads and literature. Most manufacturers had moved exclusively to photography, cheaper, and at this point retouching and modifying photos was getting easier and more accessable.

Personally, I love the hand drawn stuff, and yes, sometimes the illustrator took artistic licence. After all, they are artists!   smile

Well I enlarged it 800% and measured the spacing of the slots out and it works out to a 4 slot wheel perfectly.biggrin

I'm with Carl on the 3-slot wheel.  They were getting into asymetrical stuff back then. wink

Something to do with LSD, and that's not Limited Slip Differential I'm talking about.

Ask Timothy Leary. He is dead, but you can call him.
