I like doing that just to have fun with the "normals" out there, I drove a beat to heck 82 F150 for 11 years, and I put a hood scoop on it and different size engine badges on either side to confuse people... it was fun!

I have to admit I'm tempted to carry the 427 aircleaner lid in the trunk just in case I need to impress normal people.  As far as I know there is no other external difference in 66 so it would be so easy.....  BUT IT WOULDN"T BE RIGHT  :>(

Man Ken, some guys are never happy....

I know a guy in Manitoba who'd be thrilled to own your car, even if it's "only" a 396......... laughing.gif

Oh, and 2qwik2c taught me that 327, 396 and 427 each are distinct air cleaners. I bet the snorkel is different, 396 to 427.

Why not run the car with the 427 decal, keep the 396 lid in the car and if some cruise night lawyer ever points out the air cleaner is "not correct" use the 396 lid to smack them in the head.

Here's the air cleaner I am running, I found this thing in the back of the garage, it's probably a super rare 455 HO air cleaner worth about $500.  The fun part is 1973 is such an obscure year everyone thinks it is a factory Canadian Ram Air set up. If this is a hobby we should have fun, and being "correct" be it politically or factory sucks.

This appeals to my diabolical sense of fun.  Throw caution to the wind.

For some( myself) the fun part is being factory correct. I never had the chance to experience these cars in their original states, born to late. So it is something I want to experience. Bias plies and all. I guess what I want to do sucks and isn't fun then.confuse

I guess I kind stirred some deep feelings here.

I think we'd always agree with the concept of  "Its your car,, you can do whatever you want with it  that gives you enjoyment  even it it might amounts to a slight bit of blarney or lots of mods.

Guys who know the score will know the score anyway.

The only other concept that seem to be the general sentiment here is that the rarer it is and  the better shape your car is in when you get it would kind of imply that you would want to keep it pretty original as it is both easier to do and more important for dollar value and probably for your own satisfaction.

However  the second statement is always less important that the first one im my view.

For me, I'm going to stick with the truth about my engine as I am a terrible liar.
I know.  I've tried.

Each of us has our own idea as to what is fun as far as our cars go.

People always laugh and tell me it's crazy to travel 500 miles to some out of the way wrecking yard to find the original style bolt I want!!!

They just don't understand.............!

Andrew the point I think Ray is trying to make is, this is supposed to be fun and people should build their car the way they think it should be not the way others 'think' it should be. So if you want it stock, build it stock, if you want to modify it, modify it, make a clone, whatever, just do what you like, but when it comes time to sell, be up front and honest about what it really is. This is supposed to be fun, otherwise why the heck are we doing this?? We really shouldn't call down anyone's car lest we want to be callled down too. Compliments and constructive critisism are welcome. Just mytwocents.gif

Yes I understand all that, but read his last line?? I just added my 2 cents based on that last sentence. What sucks for others if fun for some.

I just took it as being forced to be correct, sucks, not that choosing to be factory correct sucks.

I t was a joke boys...I'd have at least one factory correct car right down to the white striped  hoses if I hadn't spend $120,000 in university tuition and fees over the past 4 years!

I hear you Ray. I've been paying since 2002 and not done yet. Now I have a wedding to pay for in 2011. Welcome to the freedom 85 plan.
