1965 Beaumont SD "Cheetah"

You are doing a great job on this resto Paul and I applaud your efforts.

I have been following this thread and have read through it in it's entirety several times and again this morning. I would like to offer and opinion without the intention either way of saying this is an early Conroy Cheetah. Please don't take it any other way and I apologize for using your thread to voice my opinion.

Your car definitely has some interesting and rare options. It's too bad that your car can't be verified as an early Conroy Cheetah. I think if I were building this car I would build it as the build sheet states with the added Talbot mirror and the emblems on the front fenders with an explanation that poses the question and let the person looking at the car or this thread to make his/her own assessment.

The power of the internet or print can be a great assett or a detriment. People have to be careful about what they post as public without concrete documentation. The car that is shown with this explanation (below) makes it very difficult to try and correct what most people perceive as the truth.

Qualicum car show 2010 070.jpg

I recently changed my auto signature to show my 69 as being one of 91. The reasons above are why I did this. My car is one of 43 350HP cars but there were 48 325HP cars made as well. I was hesitant to post the numbers for the 48 cars because of conflicting information on paperwork I had from VVS. When I got paperwork on the second 325 car I contacted George and had him check the first car again and the information was not correct. I was also hoping that someone else with a 69 would come forth with some data.

Again, I apologize for hijacking your thread. I think that you are doing an amazing job and can't wait to see the finished car. I think you are being tough on yourself when you say it won't be as nice as another car. Just the fact that this car survived is amazing on it's own. Keep up the great work.

The good news that is exactly how I am building the car. The talbot mirror will be on the doors and not on the front fender like the originals on the car and the V-8 emblems are drilled and will be covered by a Conroy Cheetah emblem. It's getting the 65 Skylark GS rims with redlines like our local 67 Cheetah (the gold one). I have a numbers correct 327 300hp that will have a stock representation. If I ever get tired of trying to defend it's existance as a 65 Cheetah I will bolt on stock mirrors, pull the emblems, bolt on the v-8 emblem, and walahh! It's a stock rare optioned 65 SD 4 spd car. I hopefully will have some better photos of the car by the end of the weekend as it will be bolted back on the frame once the floorboards and the firewall are painted red. Funny thing is another member told me he bought a Conroy firebird with talbot mirrors on it and verified my cars existance along with another white 65 Beaumont L-79 Cheetah. His buddy saw with his own eyes in the dealership. I wish he had a photo. Liking this car or building this car doesn't hinge on proving it's a Cheetah for me. I just love the car all on it's own.

Rick has done a nice job on the floors for sure. Between the two of us it's turned out pretty good. I mean with my motivation and his skill everything is good.

So the car is back home and on the frame and I am really happy with it. You always wonder how the mounts will line up when you do the whole bottom of the car but Rick did a good job. Here are the photos.

wow rolling along quite well ,looks like regal red.
now ship that rotissorie to me. i have to get a chop saw and some material to build one.
ive seen people use engine stands with a few mods to them.
did Rick build the jig?
What product are you using for the grey primer or is that a epoxy of some sort
did you guys sandblast all the inside and outside or dip the body?
thats a lot of scuffing , sanding. or scotchbrite all inside?

nice work, good pictures too

Ricks Roto is home built but princess auto has one for almost as cheap as it is to build one. His lifting and lowering of his roto is pretty tuff so I would suggest looking at another. The car was media blasted by a mobile pro with a glass silca mixture in and out including all the removed parts. He didn't warp a thing but 1200.00 to do it. Not cheap but it does a good job. The grey is epoxy and it was topped in high build primer.

That looks awesome Paul! I actually like both of the red colors you used. The first one that you said looked like orange reminds me of the color of the G8's. GM calls it "Liquid Red". But truthfully, the second red you used will suit your car much better.

Beaumontswanted wanted some measurements of my 65 Cheetah mirrors so here it is. They are 4 inches long and the rear lense is 12 inches in diameter. I also posted a picture because it has a special  crest. This mirror is the original one to this car as far as I can see. I hope this helps. Sounds like there may be another Cheetah in the works.

These mirrors were on the front fenders? Did the door not have holes for a mirror? Cant see the crest...is that a talbot logo? Cool project you have there, regardless of verifiable cheetah or not, it's going to be a head turner!!!

The crest is the logo. The doors were not original to my car when I got it but I assume that they would have no holes from the factory unless the dealer installed them or they were ordered with them. It is verified but I am not concerned either way. Someone else needed my cheetah talbot info so I posted it. I'm not putting mine in the position that they were installed. They will go on the doors. The Cheetah is a winter project so it sits till then,
