years ago i bought a mini austin panel van, a 1959, with a 327/ glide. i had the ownership, but the vinwas nowhere to be found. i was told by the mto, to create a vin, any vin, and it was to be registered as that. i chose my ph. #. i made a plate and stamped it in and that was that. vin tags do get destroyed for one reason or another. i wonder, if you have an ownership, if this still applies?

Its above board to buy a ownership....   below board is what you do with it,  that can be considered illegal   
this could go on and on  lol  

If you weld the front of a 4 door to the rear of a 2 door, and you own both cars,  Did you save a car, or do something illegal?    this could go on and on  

If you buy a licence plate from a vendor,   can you be accused of buying it, to attach illegaly to a old car...   etc etc

The fact is none of us can say if this is illegal or not without doing some research. In the past I used to collect ticket stubs from famous sports matches. Is that Scalping for something that happened 40 years ago...No. It's a hobby.

My opinion is it is not illegal to sell these items and I too have enjoyed browsing through his binders many times.

I hear that their are people who re-body cars and transfer VIN plates, now that might not be legit but I am sure every Province has its own laws and regulations.

I like Ray's spin on collecting these ownerships as a hobby.

It only becomes illegal if you use them to misrepresent an existing vehicle.

It real easy to make a fake with just vins. You have people selling the correct rivots...all you need is a donour car . Restamp the block...A few things here and there....Buyer beware
