OMG. I know Laurie well, went to school and played together as kids in Weymouth NS. I support his decision to protect the hood but don't think i would have handled the situation in the same manner.

no Well, this is the way I see it. We live 30km from the nearest town so phoning 911 just isn't going to work besides, there's never a cop around when you need one anyway.
If someone came around with the intention of causing trouble with my family they would find it easier to get onto the property than it would be to leave. This is a photo of my daughter and Marley a 200lb English Mastiff and he really loves his people , mess with his family and you won't live to see tomorrow.

P.S. There's no such thing as a bad kid ,just bad parents. Where's your kid tonight?

I just can't help but think that this guy that pointed the gun (even though unloaded) will have a target on his back now, because of the way he handled the situation. The kids will be back.
He will probably have to sleep with one eye open. Hopefully he doesn't smell something burning in the middle of the night.

I have taken the laws in my hands a few times, when it comes to protecting my family I really dont care if its legal I do what it takes, now im one of the people in our town that could leave the keys in my bike or car and know one will touch it. So I dont have many problems anymore but back in the day I layed down more then one beating for people getting out of line, I even chased some trouble causing kids on to the roof of a department store and held the there until police arived, they had dropped a huge ice chunk on the hood of my 69 Amassador I was pissed, so when I had them cornered on the roof of the store the one punk sad you cant touch me im a young offender and I kindly pointed out that it was just me and him on the roof and im pretty shure people fall of roofs that they are not supossed to be on all the time. When Jan worked down town London I made her carry a knife and told her never pull it out to thretten a attacker, if she had to pull it out use it, I know my opinions are a little radical but because of our laws and lack of freedoms that todays youth is getting out of control!

Is it any wonder that it is called the "Criminal Justice System"? It certainly isn't for any justice to law abiding citizens.

what a piss off!!!
it would seem, that in this fine country or ours, that criminals have more rights than anyone. the "system" is making criminals of innocent people by protecting the thugs breaking the law. if a guy breaks his leg while he's breaking into your place.. YOUR at fault!! and he can sue and win against you... how messed up is that?

if the group of individuals in question have a history of being trouble in the area.. then taking the gun out shouldn't be a problem at all... it's time there were repercussions for actions taken.. make prison an "un-fun" place to be.

this guy has it right in my mind... he's the sherrif in Arizona that makes jail a "deterrent"

A lock on your house ,car, garage or fenced in compound is only to keep the HONEST MAN OUT.If anybody crosses that fine line. Then they enter at their own risk.Sure you should call the police but are you going to wait to see what might happen to your family by time they get there. The problem with this country is that the rights of the the inocent people are to limited and there is to many do gooders.EG: They have there rights to. Like when they have video evidence or a conviction. We the tax payers have to pay for a trial. Every thing is all messed up.Our justice system is a joke!

I have nothing better to do this afternoon so why not weigh in again.

Attention everybody go back and read the facts. Facts not made up fiction. Here it is for those who failed to read it:

The youths were running across yards at night.

Where does it say thev broke into a house, where does it say they were stealing anything, where does it say they were threatening people. NEWS FLASH it does not. Please stick to the facts when formulating answers.

Imagine what you might do if someone threatened your kid with a shotgun because they were running through yards at night.

Based on the comments above it would a gunfight at OK Corral and someone would be dead and I suspect it would be the guy with the unloaded gun.

A string of thefts and vandalism by teenagers in the neighborhood and lack of response by the police escalated this event. It was not due to three innocent teens taking a shortcut across the yard.

shoot first and ask questions later. You break into my house with my kids in their beds, you will be dead before you hit the floor. Period. I don't give a S%$# if you re 15, drunk wearing a clown suit. You don't want to die, don't break into my hose. Locked and loaded at all times.

Here is something that a U.S. member of Team Chevelle posted about 2 years ago. Of course the Right to Bear Arms is a lot different from the official view here in Canada. We don't have but a fraction of the gun crime they have in major U.S. cities, but for now i will leave that one alone.

Food for thought, I'd say...

My father died recently. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. He served this country in WW II with 3 tours in the RCAF. He never has had any problems with the law.

Once the police recieved notice of his death they arrived at my mom's place, 9 AM Sunday morning. They confiscated all his guns, all our family heirlooms. His beautiful Browning 12 guage, his 30/06 Remington bolt action, his other shotguns, a .22 and a Luger that he brought home after serving in WW II. The cops took everything, all his amunition that was locked up separately. The Luger has already been destroyed (that is if it isn't sitting in some cop's private gun collection). My older brother had an expired Firearms Aquisition Certificate so they told him "too bad, they aren't going to hold onto the long guns of ours forever." He has renewed the certificate and is the process of getting our registered long guns back, if it is possible.

Did you know that once you have registered guns in your house, the police do not need a warant to enter your house? Incredible!

This stupid registry does nothing to prevent any of the gang gunplay at Jane & Finch, domne with unregistered 9mm & .45 handguns. I suppose if a cop is entering a house they want to know if there are guns there. So the cops can treat you like a criminal and shoot your dog. Sorry.

Again and again, Red Herrings that have nothing to do with the story posted.

Lots of tough talk, but once you have a family member in law enforcement, like a kid you change diapers for, your view might change. How many on here have enough guts to face the prospect of having a bat, a knife or a gun pulled and used on you at work everyday? I've heard enough about how crappy the Police are. Enough thanks.

A cop knocking on my door is one thing, a complete stranger in my little girl's room in the middle of the night is something else entirely. I stand by my previous statement. I'm not out "prowling in the middle of the night"

My kids are raised to respect their neighbour and wont run through the back yard in the middle of the night and if I caught them id give them a good kick in the arse.

Im sorry Ray you are a nice guy but being a Motorcyle enthusist with some friends with questionable back grounds, I dont have the same respect for the law as you do, I have been herassed, assaulted, intimidated, and stole from by some of our finest in uniforme not all cops are bad but some shure do get a big head with that badge. I have had up to 6 police officers attack me at one time when I was walking into the police station on my own. Now on the other hand I have met some really nice cops and most of them will agree that the law gets abused all the time. My dad was a factory worker his entire life, more factory workers die in one week then cops in a entire year! its there job to be put in harms way, they chose it, so I dont put them on a pedistal for enforcing laws that abuse our freedom. Now with that said I agree what they do is very honurable, and they are needed but they should get no more praise then the fellow that works in a chemical filled factory, with smoke in his lungs, trying to feed his family.

I'm with Ray on this one.

Most of you guys/girls have been sitting on your couches, eating chips and watching too many vigilante action movies!biggrin
I'm sure more than 90% of you wouldn't point a gun at anyone in real life even if they were up to no good in your back yard. Get real, drop the macho bravado.disbelief

Its great to have neighbours who watch for each other but i dont think a gun of anykind should have been involved in that situation. If your drunk and see a gun nothing good can come out of that.Im sure just going over emptyhanded would have stopped the problem. At 7 11 once 2 drunks tried to start a fight with me.My friend came from another isle and said whats the problem and the 2 drunks blubbered something and left.Being a recovered alcholic its how i see the situation should have been handled. Now im the so called responsible one not he idiot drunk.I guess alchol is a huge problem.
