A will is so important.

I would take a cheque no matter what colour it is and put in my centre console.

I'm so glad I have such a nice wife. If I die just come to the door and she will pass you the keys. She might tell to put on your seat belt but that's it and off you go in your new Beaumonts.

All I'm saying is don't leave your family out to dry. I'm here witnessing first hand the serious and divisive problems that a massive collection of cars creates for the family and estate. It is incredible to witness how ruthless people can become. Poor Hillar's father is 86 and I can't describe how he is being treated by Hillar's sister all over a bunch of old cars. I suppose seeing him today in such a poor state, a man that was full of life and vigor was a a bit too much for me. cry

I know first hand how you feel as well as Hillars Dad....... Unfortunately my sisters are/were the same way. Dad had no will and the rest of the family got nada!!! Maybe this is why I am single and cars have become my kids?? (lol)

Seriously, when my time comes, all will be sold and the proceeds will go to the cause I have already picked out........ Nothing as yet, will go to my family... That way no one will quabble at each other but all can feel free to be mad over a dead brother!

I appreciate what you have said about Hillar Ray, I have read many of the posts about him and the aftermath.

I have two stories:

A local fellow with a passion for antique outboard motors passed away.  The only surviving members of his family were two slick polished professionals from Toronto who had to come out to the coast and settle his affairs - the entire collection of lovingly restored, mint condition pre-1950 outboards ended up in a steel bin down at the local steel shredding plant.    Guys at the plant were blown away at how perfectly restored these motors were - just mint.  We heard that the two family members made it back to Toronto in time for an important luncheon with their squash partners.

My uncle died a few years ago.  Never married, no kids.  I was the only family member that could attend to his affairs at his home in Vancouver.  I spent two days and went through everything to inventory as best I could and spent hours on the phone with family describing everything and then packing up stuff that people wanted.  Called Sally Ann - they weren't interested in his stuff, called a used-junk store, they weren't interested.  Called auction houses and they weren't interested.  Could not get anybody to take his stuff for free, even if I delivered it.  So everything , including his awards for principal of the year in Prince Albert in 1963 and letters of thanks and clothes, dishes, books, personal papers all went into a big dumpster.  I felt like crap - but that was my only option at that point.  After that weekend, I stopped putting pictures in picture albums - why bother - my punk ass nephew will just chuck em out anyways.

So Ray and Vince  - I hear you about this issue.  My motto is live for the day, treat yourself, enjoy people you love, drink lots of wine and indulge your passion.  I guess that's why I'm up to 14 cars...time for a glass of wine - its 4pm somewhere!

A very good philosophy to live by Dave. We're only here once  - and then only for a while.

"Slick" and "polished" were the words I was told.

Mind you -  around here, anyone who brushes their hair and teeth might be considered slick and polished.
