Once upon a time the Army came to help Toronto out of a snow jam and the city has never lived it down. I'm happy everyone is safe so I won't say a word about the Army helping out.
What a crazy day! I didn't realize how bad it was until I hit the 402 turn off on the 401 and saw the closed sign. I thought the 402 was closed closer to Sarnia. I had to drive to the next turn off, turn around and take the long way into work (I was 10 mins late). Over 270 people have been rescued and most are being held in Strathroy, Ont. Some folks were stranded in their cars over 24hrs. I haven't seen a winter like since I was a kid in the 70's and there is still more on the way. The local news was stationed at a closed hwy near Clinton and they were filming a number of people driving past the road closed sign and the OPP officer stationed right next to it! Crazy!
Whiteout conditions can exist at the surface, but 15-20 feet up, visibility can be good. I've been creeping along a freeway at half the speed limit in snowy conditions, but a transport truck, with the driver several feet higher, can pass me and have great visibility. My visibility is worse after he passes though!
boy, you can tell i,m not from down south. i clicked on this thread cause i thought someone was having problems with a 402 big block! lol i must be a car guy!
my parents lef t for panama city florida monday at 10am, took them 5.5 hrs to get to windsor from london(2 hr drive). they made it to Lima Ohio 1st day and emailed me last night and made it 90miles north of Panama City Beach so they are safe. I was so worried(seniors) and their refusal to get a cell phone. They should be arriving now as I type this. They never told me prior to leaving if they were going to Sarnia or Windsor borders. Was worried still all day. Luck was on their side. dad said he counted over 30 flipped vehicles and 7 jackknifed transports. Their guardian angel got them their safe. That little HHR does the job well. Took mky fiance and I 1hr 30 min to get home from emerg last night. couldnt see edge of hood. 10-15 km hr top speed in 4wd. in my 38 yrs of being here, i have never seen snow fall so much at once. worse then the 77 storm we had. un beleiveable , just wild. I hope everyone is safe

Big Troubles on 402
Well the 402 from London to Sarnia is a BIG BLOCK of road lol
I decided against taking the 401 and fighting the transports for one lane so I took the back roads. Normally I can get to work in about 22 minutes. Today was an hour. It's still snowing here in London. I'm still amazed at the amount of people who braved the roads to come in for repairs like a loose dome light!
who needs light when u have a hot wife and your all alone stuck in a car? LOL
That's the problem: u have a hot wife and your all alone stuck in a car!

This morning i decided to cancel my dad's appointment at University Hospital in London. I read that both the college and university in London were closed and i didn't feel like driving an hour to find out the outpatient clinics just closed, apparently they didn't but i didn't feel like taking the chance. Drive to work bare and wet, no problems. My mother in law made the TV news last night, i missed seeing it.
