'68 Parisienne 2 door Chinese Embassy Car

This week I'm taking delivery of a pretty beat up, vandalized, '68 2 door Parisienne without the power train (originally a 327 car). I have to "unbury it" and get out of a shed where it's been living for the past 30 years as the owner's son wants to tear down the shed.
I'm going to part it out ... I don't think there is one good body panel on the car, but there are some odds & ends.
The data plate is still on the car. I think Jimmy Hoffa's body is in the trunk.biggrin
The owner's son told me that it is an original Ottawa, Chinese Embassy car. I was shocked when he told me that. I told him about Mark's '67 Russian Embassy Grande Parisienne 4 door.
The owner also has a '57 Chevy, '77 Monte SS, some vintage stock cars in various states of repair. Who knows what else ... there are car parts everywhere!
He gave his son his original '76 plain jane 400 Firebird to fix up.

***pictures to follow***

I think it looks like the Parisienne was chosen in a tender or some other purchasing process initiated by out foreign service department since this is not the first time we have seen one used as as Embassy car.

I am curious about a '77 Monte Carlo SS. I just never knew that model existed. I'll have to go web surfing but not now because it's time to head out to Church.

Interesting that the Chinese Embassy would choose a two door hardtop of all models. I could see them going for a Strato or Laurentian more, comrade!

Would like know what dealerships this car and Mark's '67 GP came from. I'm guessing Surgenor's in Ottawa.

I would guess, the car was like a "LIMO" to them!!  5 in the backseat and 4 in the front

I think you're right Ray ... I probably heard wrong because I was "in the momentshocked.gif" There was a lot of eye candy in the way of old auto parts.
There was also a beautiful, old stained-glass window in the shed that I showed interest in.

I'll post a tag pic. and others as soon as I get it delivered.

So I did look it up, seems that there was a Monte Carlo, Monte S and Monte Carlo Landau. 1975 was the last year for 454, then in 1976 the 400 sbc was the top engine and in 1977 the 350 was the top engine.

Maybe tomorrow (I feel a cold coming on wink). I'll keep you in the loop. I thought of you when I heard of the car. There might be some useful parts on it for you.

I'm also driving to Cobourg in June.
Hopefully there something you need on the car.

Yep.

Here's what I wrote in another thread Jonathan:

Took delivery of the "Chinese Parisienne" this morning. Turns out to be a '68.
The rear window blew/popped out doh.gif (due to the lack of a windshield and the gale-force winds) on the 20 km. trip to my place. The tow truck driver just shrugged his shoulders, and said "oh well, there were cars behind me, but nobody seemed to swirve, and no one followed me here"disbelief.gif. I'm going to retrace the route and see what happened to it.
PEI has been having power outtages, high winds, lots of rain, storm surges (roads flooded), and I'm sick, so no pictures of the car today.
I just need warmth, dryness, hot tea/honey, and some drugs.

TORONTOThe office of Canadian Foreign Affairs Minister Lawrence Cannon has called on the Chinese embassy in Ottawa to return a 68 Pontiac Parisienne, which he said was withheld when he refused to provide details about his personal life in Canada.

Zhang Zhaopei applied for a 1968 Pontiac Parisienne from the Chinese consulate in Toronto on Friday, submitting his Canadian passport as part of the process. But when he went to pick up his Pontiac, he was given a blank sheet of paper and told to list extensive personal information about his work, family, and personal history.

Carl, as you can see, the news story I read was slightly different...
