Anyone recommend a good electrical guy near Oshawa?

Looking now for someone who in the spring would be able to solve some of my electrical issues I have with my 68 Firebird. Things like the turn signals not working, reverse lights that sometimes work, wipers not working sometimes, etc.

I've tried to solve some of these issues but am not good with electrical stuff and don't want to start replacing harnesses, etc if all that's wrong is a bad ground.

And, yes, I checked the fuses. smile

Thanks!

Paul at waterloo would be a good help, but I'm not sure when he retires....  known as Lotstas

Thanks Carl. I see Paul's avatar is a 67 Firebird too. I'll contact him. Thanks for the info.

Just my opinion .... with a '68 ... changing out the harness is just good insurance. Old dry wiring is a fire hazard. I know several people who've lost their rides because they wanted to preserve original wiring.

Good advice, but how easy is it? I have some skills but electrical is not one of them. I would much rather entrust the job to someone who has the skills to do it right.

Easy is a factor of cost. The more you're willing to pay, the easier it is. Many new aftermarket harnesses bolt directly to the firewall, no work at all on that end. Split the wires into inside and outside looms (bundles) and follow the placement of the old one. On a points type ignition, there's maybe a dozen or so wires all told ... nothing like the hundreds in a modern nightmare.

Before you go that way, take apart what's worrying you and sand off any corrosion you see anywhere near it ... you'd be surprised at how little it can take to fail a ground ... or how much crap it can still work through. I had a wiper motor fail in winter on the highway .... only to discover that there wasn't a ground to be found .... the motor had a brass strap to the outside of the housing, and one of the hold down bolts was the ground. 30 seconds with an emery pad and I was good to go. But it had been slowing down for a while ... i was convinced the motor was failing.

Mark, I'm just north of you [east of Port Perry] I just ordered a new harness from EZ Stateside. It's not that hard to re wire a vehicle, done it a few times now!! I can agree with the advise you are getting here, not worth the risk of going up in flames. Friend down the street has a 57 Chevy S/Delivery, need wiring in the "worst " way but he won't go for it, says" it's OK" just a little brittle!! I tell him spent the money & do it RIGHT. My harness was $185 US complete harness & new fuse box!!!!
