I don't think I've ever seen one of these before (or a reproduction?)  Is this for real?:

Agreed.  But have you ever seen an air cleaner assembly like that before?  Think it's a legit factory item?

I've seen that before but I just thought someone took the snorkle off. There are a lot of very knowledgeable Chevelle people out there. I don't think it would be listed if it wasn't legit.

I suspect a 396 never came with one like that.

I zoomed in on the decal and I see 425? Also was not the lid more flat not so
dished upward. Had a '68 Chevelle SS with the 325HP 396 and the lid was more
flat and factory chrome not painted.

my 65 396 425 hp vette has a black open element air cleaner and its one of the first 396 cars built so im thinking someone is asleep at the switch, i have seen the 396 325 hp air cleaners that are missing the snorkels, it makes them sound cool but i dont think thats stock, but you never know.

X2 except mine was a 66, chrome for sure (also valve covers)

Also 427Carl is (as always, eh?) correct, the 325's were a dime a dozen.
