It might be ugly as sin .. but if i had to pick a car to go from Mtl to BC and that was one of my options, I'd take it. Very easy to keep maintained.

My favorite version was the 1977 wagon. For 1978 they made the hood and grille uglier, but that was done to allow adequate cooling for the newly available 304 V8.

I remember seeing the Pacer for the first time at the 1975 Auto Show at the CNE in January 1975; a dark red DL sedan with twin white vinyl roofs. I thought to myself "AMC dropped the Javelin to bring out this turd?"  Originally AMC was slated to buy wankel engines from GM for use in the Pacer, but several weeks before the 1975 introduction GM pulled the plug on the wankel engine program after investing millions. GM hastily shoehorned the 262 V8 into the Monza, originally built around the rotary engine option. That is why the Monza had an electric fuel pump rather than a mechanical one. That is also why the tunnel was so high on the 1975 Monza, to accomodate the high output shaft of the wankel engine. The tunnel was dropped down for 1976 because the wankel was dead. Meanwhile the Pacer styling and hoodline were done around the presumption of a wankel rotary engine, a stillborn project.

Party on, Wayne! Party on Garth!

I remember they advertized that the passenger door was bigger than the drivers by about 4 in.

I remember that commercial when it came out.

The California licence plates on this car makes me curious. I wonder if someone brought it up to Canada to resell. Looks like a commercial email address.

Have to admit, I did briefly lust to own one after Waynes World One and Two.
Then I smartened up and bought a Gremlin. (Actually I bought a Spirit first but that is a whole other story).

I remember when they were on the front cover of either Popular Science or Popular Mechanics. I must admit, I still think both the Pacer and Gremlin were cool looking little cars. The one in that sub commercial is a great looking model in one chubby guy's opinion...

Party On Darryl!
We are going to have to find you a Brampton built one, of course.
Just right for tearing up and down the Don Valley Parkway.

Didn't one of those win or come close on a recent "PINKS all OUT" with a blonde lady driving it. IT WAS FAST!! and I saw one cross the block on a rerun of B-J last week & think it brought a "good" buck!!! Still ugly, no two ways about it, but think they are getting more popular??/

The Pacer is such an unusual car it gets a lot of attention especially from kids. There was one parked near us at a show last summer and I was amazed at the number of 4-10 year old kids that looked and talked about it.

Rust in the usual places? Doesn't that mean it's a basket-case for one of these cars? LOL! Yes, they were/are ugly little buggers but then so to was the "Epidemic Envoy", the Jeepster, the VW Thing; and so on and so on. It's replacement today fer ugly is The Smart Car in my opinion. But ya sure couldn't beat the gas mileage on the little Pacers. When I first saw the posting my exact thoughts were those of the other tin indian saying they look great upside down and filled with those goldfish with the big eyes! Exactly what I was gonna say! I also remember that commercial
Todd has posted. But then again, I can still remember the tune and lyrics to the Mercury Bobcat commercial! YIKES MAN! Get a life! LOL!

Even 4- 10 year olds think that the Pacer is cool! Hey, I'd even trade my mint Yugo for one of those!
