41 pontiac questions

Hi, I am new to pontiacs and this site.  Had old chevys before but i just purchased a 41 pontiac. I would like to find out if pontiac used chevy motors, the one that's in the car looks like a chevy 216. Would also like to know if anyone can decode vin.  It's a two door sedan, 3 speed and a 6 cyl, Silver streak lettering on the glove box.
Vin Plate
oshawa walkerville regina
serial 122116498
model 22-11
engine w40189
trim 341
body serial 1853
paint 147

Any pictures? Are you rodding it or keeping it stock? There's a coupe body
out at my brother's farm 40 or 41 and it's got my name on it. Someday.
These guys will decode it for you. They're good at it.

interesting, the guy i got the car from said the the owner he got the car from had vintage plates on it and that the chevy 216 is correct because it is a canadian built car. The funny thing is there is a foot starter that comes out on the driver side of the motor but the starter is on the other side. I am just wondering if the motor got changed at some point. |The car shows 69000 miles and there is a old sticker on the door post from service in '57 stating 68000 miles at time of service.

In a Chevy book I have (1929-1950) it shows the foot starter on the drivers side, thru floor onto a shaft on top of the bell housing to linkage the pushs a button on top of the starter that energizes the starter and also moves the drive pinion to engage the flywheel.

Car looks in pretty decent shape. Good luck with it.
Does the inside look like 68000 miles????

Welcome to the site, great looking car. Just wondering did canadian pontiacs back then have a overhead valve engine like the chevy or did they have flat heads six engines like the above pics ?

That mileage probably is correct Roman.  My '34 was only driven approx. 4000 miles in the 25 years from when my dad sold it in 1981 to when I purchased it back again in 2006.  As for the engine being changed,  you're going to have to go looking for the serial number on the block and compare to the plate on the firewall to determine that.
