Another '69 Caprice with Hideways. In Calgary area

719882d_19.jpgHere is a lovely looking number.

The colour really suits it.

Just wondering if those Chrysler style things on the tops of the fenders are a GM option?

Very nice car, that HP decal reads a little high for 69 396's.

There's a red 69 Caprice 427 car in Calgary, still with the original owner - can't remember if it's 335 or 390 hp.   He had it painted a couple years ago, and brings it to cruise night occasionally.   It also has hide-aways, with the headlight squirters.  I don't think he has the fiber optic signal light monitors though.   Bench seat and drum brakes.

Hey Vincent Jr.

Thanks for bringing the thread on fibre optics to the forefront.

Pretty neat technology for the '60s.

Really like those hideaway front ends.

Was vinyl interior an option on '69 Caprices?

Headlight Squirters, was that just an option on hideways or available on regular light cars?

When did leather become an option on big Chevies and Pontiacs?

And whatever happened to the green car in the fibre optics thread anyway!

I had the fibre optics in a 69 Caprice coupe. Still worked when I parted the car. I might put them in my 4 dr ht some day. I think this option was installed in 68 through 70. Not sure about after that.

This blue car is nicely outfitted with options.

Ha John, I wondered when you would pipe in.
You were the first person I thought of when I saw this car.
The Scotti '69 Caprice with hideways is still for sale!

I could have had the gold Caprice at Scotti's for about $8500.00 when the previous owner had it for sale in Alberta. It was a nice car. I passed only because I wanted a BB.

Scotti is marketing it now as a resto project; not sure why but it has probably gotten damaged like the 64 Pontiac wagon he has. When I was at their showroom to buy the 69 Parisienne, you could barely look at any of the cars as they were all packed so tightly into a dark space. Perhaps the Caprice suffered a mishap. Or maybe it needs some work after being laid up for so long - Scotti must have it going on 7 years now.

Last time I inquired  - since being listed as a resto project - he wanted $13.9K for it. He also wants $49.9k for the red non-Z24 (non SS427) 67 Impala SS convertible with non-original 427. So the cars are pricey.

I remember the 1969 Chevy TV ads showing some kind of traction aid where you pushed a button and sand or something dropped on the rear tires to keep it from spinning on ice. Must have been a tank in the trunk. Anyone else remember this??

Thanks
Randy

Occasionally you see a complete setup available on ebay, they go for big bucks.  The refill cans appear fairly often, they are reasonably priced.

Regarding fibre optics, my Fleetwood has this as one would expect, but it's a 1993. It is a very useful feature. White for headlights, amber for turn signals and blue for high beams, In rear view mirror you can see each tail light in red, signal and brake glows brighter.

Scrapped a 72 Olds 98 with the fibre optics, took them out and installed them in my 64 Biscayne 4 door. It was a pain though, but they worked in the end, also took the complete power moonroof/sunroof out, was gonna install that too, but a buddy gave me $100 for the thing for his Dodge van....He still has it and hasn't worked on his van in almost 20 years.

Now would Canadian Chevies of this vintage also have had the fibre optics systems?

How about Canadian Pontiacs?

Canadian Chevies and Pontiacs (and Beaumonts, yes I will make that distinction) all offered the U46 Light Monitoring System (sometimes called the Vigillight). It was always a rare option. It was introduced late in the 1967 run (in the U.S.) and was very scarce on any 1967 (23 Chevelles in the U.S. had in in 1967). For 1968 they seem to promote the option, at least on the press cars that got flogged for the magazine road tests.

Back in Ancaster from 1969 until 1978 there was a really loaded Burgundy 1969 Caprice sedan. It had a 427, hidden headlights, fiber optics, fender skirts, 15" Turbine wheel covers, disk brakes, tint, Comfortrom a/c, am/fm stereo, 8-track player, tilt column, Sport Styled steering wheel (rosewood), Strato Back bench seats, power seats and who knows what else. I wasn't as estute or aware of the many 1969 options so who knows what else was on it. Traction dispenser maybe?

There also used to be another hideaway Caprice coupe down the street from me. It was traded in 1973 for a new Continental Mark IV. I once saw a six cylinder 1969 Impala Sport Sedan pass by the house where the Caprice coupe was (that is the only six cylinder 1969 Impala Sport Sedan I have seen to date).

You could get all-vinyl seats on a 1968 Caprice, but it was limited to the bucket seat coupes (true from 1966 - 1969). Caprice wagons used all-vinyl Impala interiors with Caprice instrument panels & steering wheels (and insulation).
